I like his grit, he hustles and plays hard, hate his weird looking flared nostrils though.... can we talk about that or no?

From Larry Brooks’ column (https://t.co/W1yJ3GCfog)
“The plan calls for Oliver and Ruff to accompany Quinn behind the bench while Brown will be upstairs. Brown and Ruff will work with the defense. Ruff, who along with goaltending coach Benoit Allaire survived the purge that cost Vigneault and assistants Scott Arniel and Darryl Williams their jobs, will be responsible for the penalty kill, while Oliver and Brown will share responsibility for the power play.”

A bit surprised at this decision. Would have preferred Brown to be behind the bench and Ruff to be the eye in the sky. But AV went through three defensive coaches in three years, so I blame the system a bit more than the coach.

only good thing I'd have to say is that the Rangers PK was improved last year and Ruff was in charge of that then too, they went from 19th in the league the season before up to 11th in PK last season.

probably why he kept his job

Big pivots who can bag 25 goals are getting paid nowadays. Hayes at 5.5 on a long term deal would be fine

Will post a blog later on my thoughts on the Vesey deal, much of which I likely already included in this blog based on the contract, and the hiring on David Oliver, Lindy Ruff's role etc.

when you dig deeper into those #'s, the difference from the season before is marginal.

have you seen the rapid improvement Kevin Hayes has had in faceoffs in 4 years?

You can't do that without working hard, that doesn't just happen.

- jimbro83

Like I said, I like Hayes. You basically repeated my assertion. What worries me is that he’s naturrally a big guy. He lost a lot of weight in the couple of offseason. I just said it’s risky to commit long term. It’s a battle. Will he continue putting in the work every year? What if he suffers an injury that keeps him from training?Look how Smith showed up out of shape last year
