It's actually much sadder than that.

He thinks that by cheering for the Penguins, he's actually achieved something personally when the team wins championships.

He's better than us.

- Atomic Wedgie

That's funny actually! I've see (not aussi )..but guys who will become fans of teams once they've won a cup. .I remember it happening since the islanders of the early 80s ..ask some Pittsburgh fans(they won't admit). and it happened when Mario won ..92. Seen lots of small kids wearing the pens shat after. .then leafs are on their playoff runs in the Gilmore days..and sundin 2000s and then they dump their adopted teams ..

And they have the two main pieces the Leafs are missing: Elite Right Hand shooting defenseman Jared Spurgeon who would instantly become the Leafs best defenseman, and elite defensive forward Nino Niederreitter.

Combined both players make $10.3 million.

In order to get both players, the Leafs would have to send the Wild a pretty good package. The kind of package that Leafs fans don’t like to consider.

Something like Kasperi Kapanen, Timothy Liljegren, Ron Hainsey (so that the Leafs would still have money left to sign Nylander) and multiple first round picks.

What?

- burn

I'd say 1 first, not multiple. It's a high price, no doubt, but it's an upgrade at wing, and a huge upgrade on D.

Spurgeon does have the health question mark, but both players are excellent.

Nino was injured last season, but the year before that he had 25G, 57P playing on a team that isn't known for it's offense, and he's just getting into his prime, while being a big 2-way winger. He is 1st line calibre, and his fancy stats are just about elite.

Spurgeon is also pretty high up there on the fancy stat side of things.

we'd need them to take back a guy like Marleau or Zaitsev, rather than Hainsey, though... and that might cost an extra first(thinking Zaitsev more than Marleau)

But either way, that makes us an incredibly well balanced team, with elite skill and good depth throughout the lineup.

Christ ain't that the truth.

By that logic, Leafs fans are the least knowledgeable people on the planet because the organization has been a joke for so long.

Now that they are not a joke, and the team is better than their favourite teams... they don't know how to deal with it.

Burn said most elite C. I'm not sure if he meant Tavares or Matthews, but Tavares isn't elite & isn't an elite goal scorer - whether you like to hear that or not.
- Aussiepenguin

Oh man, do you watch hockey at all? Tavares is clearly an elite player, to even say that is absurd. All the GM's of the hockey world must be wrong....

not sure why Marner is $8.5 million? do you pay all your 60 point players that? That would mean Nylander gets 8 mil as well since he's not far behind. Also means JvR was a steal and we should've kept him based on his new salary.

both Nylander and Marner are in the 6 to 7 range tops.

Matthews isnt at "least" 11, he's at "least" 10, which is what Eichel signed for, and represents a comparable bottom. If he keeps getting injured, which he was both years, he'll also never break the 70 point mark.

injury propensity plays a part of contract negotiations. I rather have him play his 3rd year and see how it goes. Dropping 11 mil on a glass cannon worth 70 points per season, isnt the best idea.

- Buggy166

Yeah 8.5 would be too much for Marner this summer. I also think at least 11 is too much for Matthews but that seems like it’s going to happen.

Still have a Pens cap from the late 90's. Love when the Pens win, hate It when they don't. Je suis fan! C'est tout.

God is he good Not elite though...because points and poop

We have a few good center prospects as well. I haven't watched much of them, but Jack Studnicka seems to really stick out as a good 2nd round pick last year.

There's some chatter about him centering the 3rd line. Have any of you watched him?
