Hey guys. First of all, I would gladly take either player or both on my team. Do you really think that Marner should or would take less money than Matthews. Marner was your leader in scoring and was very effective in the playoffs for you guys. Any thoughts?

He hasn't. Bailey and Lee all year.

He took all the tough matchups (and played PK!) last year so Barzal could eat up weaker lines.

This is why I'm saying Tavares is overpaid. It 'appears', Matthews will be elite & yes you can probably say he already is (no matter what happened in that last game ), so hes going to get paid the same as a guy that probably hasn't got the same game. It's just a curious situation. 2 different guys, same team, same position & may get the same salary.

100% not elite. Won 2 cups but hadnt had a full season until this past one (granted his father did pass away). Someone pulled up the stats & showed Murray actually being the best by against the Caps of all tenders I think. Still, so far not elite. I agree.

Conventional wisdom is that star players fall under the following (in order):

Generational
Franchise
Elite

Tavares is most certainly elite and most would argue a franchise center too, despite being on our 2nd line (which doesn't mean much in TOR).

He is not a generational talent, however (Crosby, Lidstrom, Gretzky, Howe, Richard... Ovi probably, maybe Karlsson if he keeps up this pace).
