So JT gets 11m after how many years playing as a #1C In the NHL?

Saying Matthews will get at least that means that Dubas is either banking on Matthews being a player that can match what JT has/is doing, or, Matthews is already as good as Tavares?

This isn't a troll or a knock on either player, but because they will play in the very same team it's a valid comparison (plus both are C & both can play on the top line - oh, except in the most important game of 1 of their careers {ok that's a little close to a troll }). So which is it? Matthews already as good as Tavares, or, Dubas banking on him being as good? Is either worth 11m?

On the same subject, is Tavares over paid if you have a guy into his 3rd season being paid the same? If Matthews can be paid more then why pay Tavares that figure? I'm a strong believer that Stamkos probably isn't worth his salary. McD & Kopitar are.

Matthews is tied with McDavid for most EV goals since entering the league. He plays roughly 3 minutes less per game, and has played 20 games less. He’s an EV goal scoring GOD.

He’s coming off a PPG season (63 in 62 games), on pace for 45 goals, and is already fantastic defensively.

Honestly, a case can be made he’s already the fourth best centre in the game behind only McDavid, Crosby, and Malkin Drouin (LOL).


I’m hoping he signs for the same as Eichel, but he’ll probably get at least Toews (10.5M) money.

I think Matthews is past 'projecting' as an elite C, he scored forty goals as a rookie and has scored more 5-on-5 goals than anyone in the league since he started, with less minutes. He's in that rare category of a Sid, McD, Malkin, he doesn't really need to prove anything for five seasons or anything like that you can see what he is from day one.

It 'appears', Matthews will be elite & yes you can probably say he already is (no matter what happened in that last game ), so hes going to get paid the same as a guy that probably hasn't got the same game. It's just a curious situation. 2 different guys, same team, same position & may get the same salary.
