Wow you blokes feeling good about JT. I hope he doesn't disappoint - like the Leafs last season.

I have a hard time understanding how exactly you think last year was a disappointment They went from 95 points(14th overall) to 105 points(tied for 6th overall) last year. Sounds like a good improvement to me

I get that you guys & gals are excited with the team, signing a very good centre (not elite ), but (frank) me, talk about carrying on before proving anything. Wow.

Not all of the Leafs fans are bat poop crazy, but the ones that are are making the others look bad (I can only imagine what's going to happen if you guys don't get something out of the season - lockdown sirens in the Buzzzzzzzzz )

What is happening is that, for years, other fanbases have enjoyed feeling superior to Leafs fans because their teams were better. (I have never understood this logic, but whatever).

Now, the Leafs fans finally have some bright spots to fight back with and some reason for optimism. People are having a hard time dealing with it, and the narrative is now that the Leafs are out there pretending they already won the cup.

Look around at the threads where this stuff is happening and you will find that for the most part, Leafs fans are responding to trolls from other fan bases... that start the whole mess.

Page 1...
while Leafs fans just want to see him leave their provincial rival in the hope of resurrecting some W's in the win column.

... Then another fan doubling down on why this is a great post.

It is not like a Leafs fan came on here proclaiming our impending victory, but if someone wants to chirp, then sorry you don't like it when we chirp back.

No. It is epic, embarrassing failure.

Yes I've seen plenty between plenty. Ive got zero against the Leafs & am excited about the team - my son actually goes for the Leafs strangely enough. Not sure what happened there?? Maybe there is recency bias, but I've seen some pretty tall stories that aren't responses. We had a visitor sprouting on the Pens thread a week ago - it was dribble at best. Fans will be fans.

My son is an Oilers and Penguins fan, McDavid and Crosby obviously. Can't blame him if that is the logic he is using.

We were at a friend's cottage this weekend and the first NHL game the mother and the 11 year old son had seen was in Ottawa.

So, they are Sens fans, and have Sens stuff everywhere. They don't pay too close attention to what is going on with the team. I didn't have the heart to get into it with them

My son started following the Leafs when they were bottom of the food chain -Not that long ago. Hes 17 now & using no logic.

Swings & roundabouts. Teams struggle, then some get lucky (term used very loosely), & do something special.

With the firepower you guys had, & the way a couple of players seemed to miss the intensity of the playoffs with their performances, I'd say there was disappointment. Maybe you had no aspirations, maybe you did. It was well thought the Leafs could make an impact, but didn't. Sitting Matthews seems to have summed it up as well, which certainly would have disappointed most Leafs fans.

Is that a little clearer now?

In the bigger picture, it wasn't disappointing.

I did think they could have done better and if Nylander, Matthews and Andersen showed up for the whole series, they would have done better.

Hopeful that this was a learning and growing experience... and not the shape of things to come.
It was disappointing.

Yeah, you are wrong. Its as simple as that. The Leafs had to play one of the top teams in the NHL in the first round. Not dissapointed at all with the team, or any of the players for that matter. It went down to game 7 in the 3rd period to decide it.

Our second best C was out for 3 games as well. Good step forward this year, more expectations this year.

Had they played a 1-8 conference style matchup like the NHL should go back to they would have won in the first round....even against the Pens.

and with the youth on the team not even in their prime and bozak as the first pp center...no. going far would have been nice but far from a given and expectation..it was more hope. this team is 2 seasons removed from dead last.

stop being a goof.

Fresh, and hot. Great take.

I'll enjoy the excitement of this upcoming season with J.T. In the fold now.

You enjoy trading your franchise player for what is sure to be an unsubstantial return, Bobby Ryan and his contract, Matt Duchene walking away at season's end, your bat poop crazy owner, the Leafs home games in Kanata, and hopefully winning the lottery only to see the Avs pick first overall.

It's not a good time to be a Sens fan. If I was one I wouldn't be talking poop to anyone right now.

- Kinger34

Talking poop? I was responding to a clown (in a blog about the team that I support) who brought a 15 year old take (that, if anything just emphasized how pitiful his team has been) like Al Bundy reminiscing about his 4 touchdown game in high school. As for all of the other stuff, you've totally got me there, I take responsibility for all of that, and will try to be a better fan going forward. Enjoy the JT Cup!

I mean, there may be some truth to some of this.

But I think the bigger frustration amongst anybody not cheering for the Leafs (in Canada at least)- is how much they dominate the headlines and coverage. I think we all get it- they are by far the most popular or followed Canadian franchise, across any sport- but it doesn't make it any less frustrating- especially when the team has been horrible for how many years?

All of the other franchises just take a back seat to Toronto coverage- and there's probably an inferiority complex associated with that.

Now that Toronto has an actual competitive team- I think we're all just dreading the upcoming hockey season and the non-stop Leafs coverage that will be shoved down all of our collective throats.

I get it, and I would be the same were it the Habs in this position.

I don't mind that sentiment. What has been annoying recently is posts, like the idiot Pens (?) fan last week, claiming that Leafs fans were falling all over themselves defending the Matthews > McDavid Derp from Eklund.

A simple read of the comments showed ONE Leafs fan who "sort of" agreed, and every other Leafs fan agreeing Matthews was not as good as McDavid.

So, sure hate on the Leafs. It is expected. But it would be nice if some people were not so blinded by their hate that they can no longer read or think straight. Those people need to to re-assess their lives.

But the truth of it is .. they BOTH suck(ed), just at different times. Windows open and shut, time for the Leafs to win is NOW. Sens fans from the early to mid-2000s know that feeling all too well.

Probably safe to say the Battle of Ontario won't be what it used to be for ... well, potentially quite a while.

Poor leaf fans. They are ordering their replica rings already. Look at it this way, the leafs are 2 more first round exits away from being dismantled. My bold prediction... Tavares will be bought out in 2023-24.
