Any possibility that Karlsson resigns in Ottawa would be based on the sale of the team to new ownership. Karlsson has no interest in playing for a team owned by Melnyk. |

Friends and first responders have identified victim in early morning drowning at the Hamilton Harbour as former @NHL goalie Ray Emery. Ray played the @ottawasenators, @NHLBlackhawks, @AnaheimDucks and the @NHLFlyers. He was swimming with several friends & never surfaced #HamOnt |

Source: Sens Considering Reach Around to Karlsson...
|
|
|

He has a better chance of staying than you do of actually having a source let alone a groundswell of sources |

What would it take?
1 - $12M per annum (8 years)
2 - Remind him we dropped Hoffman for him
3 - Don't let Stone go to arbitration
4 - Trade 2 of Brown, White, Tkachuk for a solid roster player in his mid 20's. A Jeff Skinner type player.
5 - Put a hit out on Melnyk

No one really knows the true state of the situation with Karlsson. Locally, we hear that the Sens have offered the right amount of money but the sticking point is the structure of the deal. Karlsson wants lockout protection in the form of a Tavares type deal where most of his salary would be bonuses and front loaded. Not sure that is something Melnyk can afford.
They might be able to free up some cash if they can rid themselves of Gaborik, Ryan, Smith or Anderson. That might explain why things seem to have stalled at the moment. Dorion could be working on various deals.
I do find it funny that fans of other teams want to rush this to suit their own agenda. Gotta love the Vegas and Tampa fans who are hoping Sens give them Karlsson for peanuts while Leafs fans just want to see him leave their provincial rival in the hope of resurrecting some W's in the win column. - SENSible_Fan

Just thinking now about all of those people who abandoned the Leafs bandwagon to don Senators jerseys.
Poor sods.

Best thing Sens can do is sign Karlsson (C) Stone (A) Duchene (A) to fresh 8 year extensions.
Get rid of as much of Ryan contract
Give bigger roles to White, Chabot, Brown, Tkachuk and let guys like Formenton, Batherson, Chlapik, Jaros, Wolanin come into their own as they progress.
The Sens are not making the playoff next season and they can't afford to finish in the bottom 10 of the standings; too big of a loss if they get a lottery pick and it goes to the Avs |

On karlsson coming back
(1) give him signing bonuses
(2) resign Mark Stone
(3) tell him that you are serious about competing for a cup not just a playoff spot (that has to come from ownership and it has to be something they state when they resign him)
(4) give him 90m over 8 years and a full NMC |

Cmon Ek.
At least give us some details, my information down here is that the offer was ok but the organisation needs to restructure the deal with signing bonuses being increased.
So the gap/bridge/divide/cavity isn't a thing. Karlsson is just saying;
SHOW ME THE MONEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. |

How far back in time did you have to reach for that? Vegas has now won more playoff games in a single season that TOR ever has. That's a fresh one for ya. But they're "Cup Favorties" now so enjoy it until the season starts

Ottawa should just buy out Karlsson. Just to keep the other GMs in the league on notice. Keep 'em on their toes. They'll live in fear of Melnyk's next mystery move. |

I doubt he has any interest or desire to stay there now. Just keep Ryan and get max value for EK. I don't get this package nonsense. It's like trying to sell a Porsche but trying to force the buyer to buy your broken down 1970's Winnebago along with it.
Totally agree, they're not going to be competitive for a while without him. Just keep Ryan, won't hurt them getting good draft picks |

remember when the leafs traded for Phil and one of the picks that went to Boston ended up being 2nd over all in the next year's draft. boy, that stung.

This is Melnyk though. He still wants that $1500 for that 1980 K-Car back. |

All the more reason for Ottawa to sell everyone off and rebuild it. They can start with a high draft pick this year.
