Wow, really sad news about Razor.

Loved his competitiveness, but the really interesting thing I always felt Emery never got enough credit for was how he resuscitated his career after being diagnosed with avascular necrosis. That should have ended his career, but he was able to recover after a lot of hard work and continue to have a productive career as a backup.

This COULD be right. It will depend on whether the Flyers can score goals in buckets to compensate for their failure to improve their defense, and avoid taking nights off. Carolina, Columbus, Detroit and Florida could all finish ahead of the Fly-guys if one or more of the prospects doesn't make a huge impact. Nolan Patrick was far more NHL ready at the beginning of last season than Frost or Vorobyov is now as was Hagg compared to Myers, and they struggled for a big chunk of the season. If you count the playoffs, the Flyers haven't scored more goals than they have given up since 2011-12. Maybe JVR will bring back some magic? I think Scott Hartnell is still available.

None of the prospects that weren't with the team last year are going to make a huge impact this season. Flyers are a playoff team without that.

Imagine if the Flyers had him for the 2010 finals. Got to respect his tenacity and skill as a goaltender, but hard for me to get past some of his off-ice behavior.

A lot of fans didn’t want Ray Emery to sign here 2009. I wanted him bad! You can blame the young Hextall and the Broad Street Bullies way! I truly believe we would have want with him in 2010.

I think its possibly related to that disease he was diagnosed with in 2010. I remember hearing doctors saying that if he continued to play hockey he wouldnt be able to walk within 7 years. Having the loss of ability to move your legs could account for him drowning. Unfortunate for it to kick in at that point.

Manning seems like a good guy and I wish him well, but can we all just agree that Man Dog is the worst nickname?

Why? He is better than Mason. And doesn't have the mental issue of Mason.

Emery was a good goaltender. Such a sad, sad story -- far too young.

Probably. They are a borderline playoff team, just like last year. But unless the coaching becomes magical, the current cast isn't good enough to win a series.

LOL! what?

Hartnell, you are kidding me right? Exactly what do you think he will bring?
The Preds cut ties with him and as of May he was looking to retire

- opeth_pa

Sarcasm?

The point was, the last time the Flyers were any good, was that last year that JVR and Hartnell were linemates. But it wasn't a serious suggestion. Hartnell has nothing left in the tank.
