Ya it’s getting pretty bad lately. Oh well, only 90 days until our first game - CanuckDon
I usually fish so much that I'm just an occasional drop in at this time of the year but not this season. So this is what it looks like in July here? I usually turned off HB right after the first 2 days of free agency.

You've gotta stretch the truth and exaggerate a little in the summer just to make conversation. You do it all year round so you're a great summer poster

On another note, when next season is done it'll be Benning's fifth as GM, I'd like to think they take a slight step forward in year six. This upcoming year can be another building year, they've gotta see some progress after that though!!
Edit: honestly don't think he'll make it past this upcoming season though. - LeftCoaster
I highly doubt Benning finishes his 6th season and if he does it will be his last. If the owner even sees a hint of light at the end of the tunnel he will get impatient.

3 out of 30 in the 2nd round. 2 out of 30 in the 3rd round. So out of the next 60 picks 55 were bad.
If Van still had Tree and Benning wouldn't have traded away Forsling and McCann. He would have 5 guys that fit into your idea. Well 4 plus Demko who is allowed longer. - manvanfan
I don't know why Lefty keeps arguing about our picks/prospects. He can't even remember(selective memory)half the selections and leaves out even the biggest success stories like Boeser when he's poopting on the drafting. How can you constantly judge if you omit such big details? He constantly builds up McCann when he wants to female dog about trading away a prospect but when it comes time to talk about the selection of prospects, McCann isnt even a distant memory(selective). The construction of these arguments make them a lot less credible.

A reply to Reuben and not wanting to bring the kids into this mess.
I think my point is about the mess label. There have been a lot of teams over the years you could say you didnt want to expose the prospects to until its sorted out. Infighting, drugs, a black hole for goal tending, misbehaviour on the ice, coach tuned out, a fan base turning on the team every game. The Canucks are none of this.
We are just a poor team right now. That is hardly a thing to protect the kids from. Historically, high drafted players go to teams that are bottom feeders. Our situation is perfectly normal to a kid drafted early in each round. |

Jason Brough of The Athletic (subscription required) writes that after assessing the offseason in which the team spent money on multiple bottom-six forwards, the Vancouver Canucks are putting all their success next season on the scoring ability of their young prospects. For one, the team lost three of the team’s top five scorers and now besides Bo Horvat and Brock Boeser, the team will need to get increased scoring output from other forwards, including Elias Pettersson, Sven Baertschi, Nikolay Goldobin, Brendan Leipsic and Jake Virtanen. If they can’t make up for that offense, it should be another long season.
The younger players will need to produce. The team will be faster and they are going to need to give 110% every night to win. |

Wow...another beautiful day on the left coast! Head is a little less foggy from the jet lag and 12 hour time change. Should make more sense today |

There are definitely things I do and don't like. I have said for a while now Canucks need to fix the bottom 6 so I like that they finally are removing plugs and putting in better plugs. Only 10 % of cap hit spent on them.
My problem is really the Top 6. Floating names like Gagner Granlund Eriksson Sven is the dumb part.
The D will hold their own while changes are being made, and the bottom 6 will do their job, it is the top 6 that needs to pull up its socks.
Players need to step up and it is an excellent opportunity this year for Liepsic Goldobin and Dahlen to grab one of the three jobs. |

No....he's drafting fairly well so I'll leave him be, for now. Hoping Pettersson plays center and does well at training camp. |

Since Brackett came on board yes. Ryan Johnson seems to look like he knows what he is doing |

If Pettersson can play center and Gaudette makes the third line as the pivot, that pushes Sutter out, he's got value around the league, according to Botchford.
Probably more of a February thing than an October thing though. I'm just excited about a youth movement, it's hard to contain my enthusiasm. |

I think Brackett's worked as a scout for the Canucks since 2008, named Director of Amateur Scouting on August 4, 2015. Had a hand as USHL scout in drafting Gaudette and Boeser.

People (not you) need to be realistic about who they bring in this year. Pettersson Gaunce Hughes Demko Dahlen OJ . That is way too many |

It depends on TG and his deployment. Some players will score with less ice time but others need it.
You want a .45 ppg pace from Granlund, he needs scoring line mates. If not you get the .25.
Leipsic in Vegas .30 in 12 minutes. .64 in 17 with Van.
Something like
Baertschi Horvat Boeser 17 minutes
Virtanen Pettersson Granlund 16 minutes
Leipsic Sutter Eriksson 15 minutes
Schaller Beagle Roussel 12 minutes
Gagner, Goldy, Gaunce.
One player too many that needs waivers.

Two new kids this year to start would be realistic imo, Pettersson and perhaps Gaudette.
You never know, see how it plays out. |
