More like the kids gotta force the room to open up. As it stands the top 6-8 has opportunity. If they do then trades will happen if not sooner.

I think it's a two-way street, they picked these players for a reason, give them some rope and see what they can so.

It really has a lot to do with position but if your kids haven't made your team three years after drafting them, you made a poor pick (top three rounds), or the potential for him to becoming a poor pick is pretty high.

Yes a 2-way street. This the 1st year in ages a kid can come into camp & earn a top spot & seize the opportunity. EP has 1 spot locked down & others can earn theirs.

They've gotta make room for some kids, unless someone completely poops the bed at camp they need to turn this over to some kids.
- LeftCoaster

Probably not the kids you’d like (outside of EP and Hughes) but Goldobin and Leipsic still fit within that category. JV still has more to give too. Definitely not as exciting, but certainly more realistic.

It’s a development year for the rest and gives them an opportunity to gel and grow together in the AHL.

Of course a Dahlen or Gaudette can get a crack if they wow at camp but that would be a bonus imo

Even bo needs to take another step along with granlund and gaunce to a degree

Pullout and stretch arguably as well

The Sedins will leave a big hole in the on ice leadership department which will be a challenge for this group of guys to fill, if not just improving their ppg rates

Quick research here: Quite plain.

I went by your if your kids haven't made your team three years after drafting them rule.

So 2014 draft (Virtanen's draft) they are 4 years on now. I went 70 games for just a reference. 29 players from the 2014 draft have lived up to your standard.

2013 draft, 2 years 150 games. 23 players from that draft have played more then 150 games.

2012 draft 3 years 230 games. 21 players.

2011 draft 4 years 310 games. 24 players.

2010 draft 5 years 390 games. 13 players.

So out of the 90 players picked in the first 3 rounds. At no point in those drafts has it lived up to your standards.

I could have given a few more games but when I went back through and added even another 10 games to each year, it yielded a few more names. No where near 90 players.

All the way back to 2009 draft. Only 50 players have played even more then 200 games. That's not even 2 rounds and Tavares has played almost 700.

Also relevant: Benning doesn't namecheck those players, the author Brough does.

In my perfect world, FA sells the team tomorrow to Chip Wilson or Jim Patterson, Linden and Benning are fired and everyone save for EP, Boeser, Hughes and Demko are traded for picks and we gather enough assets and sink to 31st overall and then either win outright the 1OA or trade for it and pick Jack Hughes and then aggressively draft high risk/high rewards players in the later 1st/2nd and 3rd rounds.

Damn auto-correct! Got into the 30's in the Vancouver burbs. Felt about right. Should be a great game tomorrow. Hoping it goes to penalties,

You can’t allow that statement to interfere with the crowd that continually calls Benning an idiot. Sure he may not of said names, but by god he actually said he would place players on waivers or send them to Utica if they can’t make the team and he can’t find a trading partner....

What is Benning thinking saying something like that out loud, my goodness what an idiot. Now every team knows Benning is trying to build a cohesive group of better hockey players. What an idiot, how dare he trade or waive a player not living up to expectations. He tried out a few players hoping the would turn into something better, but now sees that the aren’t that good and needs to cut them loose, what an idiot.

Oh I agree he left the organization in terrible shape when it comes to prospects, but, it's time to stop blaming him for the team's current situation. Benning has had five drafts to install some youth into the lineup. So far he's only got Virtanen from his first few drafts, should be better.

He scores goals, he doesn't have to be exciting, he just needs to keep shooting.

Oh yes, 2015, he should've been included with Virtanen.

Slightly less than 1 player per team per year. Interesting.
