Who were we going to sign? You want it like the old Lou days when he would just sign some random in FA? - shvingter88
You might not like this, but its the truth. We were lucky to make the playoffs last year, and if anything it set our development back. Shero knows this. Getting a premier free agent now means nothing. Keep building through draft and trade has a chance. rushing something is stupid. I lived through the 80s, and was hansomly paid off in the 90s and 2000s. it takes time and you can have a winner, don't rush it. |

If you guys fall into the Buffalo hole, you won't get FA's signing anytime soon, & the good players not wanting to stay. Develop ok, but making playoffs is important In my opinion & building off recent success - All be it, a first round exit. Who knows how the Young guys will develop, accepting you won't win the cup but instead want a good/great draft pick is a risky practice. |

Winning develops players. Winning is the capstone of success in professional sports. If players know how to win: they will know how to do those things it takes to win. If your culture does not have winning as a capstone, then it doesn't matter how many good players you get, your system is going to hurt them.
The idea of making the playoffs being a detriment to a team because it needs to "win through the draft" is easily understood, but truth is, you have to get lucky to win through the draft (get Laine or McDavid - real difference makers), and the thing you can most control is your culture, so that the guys you do draft at 12, at 37, etc, turn into guys that compete with guys that were drafted at 2. As a manager: you need to maintain winning as the capstone, otherwise, those guys at 12 will look like guys drafted at 23, 33, 53...
Saw the scrim yesterday... Smith looks really good out there. Good example: drafted at 17, might compete to look like a top 5 pick in three years. |

Our young guys are going to still develop Hischer is going to take a huge step forward as does Butcher, I said it last year I truly think Mueller surprise's us all and plays shutdown role and eats a bunch of Greene's minutes |

It looks like Darnell Nurse refuses to sign a long term deal with Edmonton because all they have left in cap space is $5m. What is the concensus on Nurse for Severson? With Severson in Hynes’ dog house maybe a change of scenario would work. Nurse is 23 I believe and we have the cap space to lock him in. |

If this happened, Chiarelli, who's already deep in the red with fans, would have his office stormed and would meet the guillotine. |

Is Nurse that much more valuable then Severson ? If so it has to be mainly to do with were he went in the draft vs what he has actually done. I am also going under the assumption that Severson is good and just mishandled. Guys who put up pts on the blue line tend to make bad plays that goes for them all so I still think Sevs is a nice piece. I do like trying to get Nurse though but without taking from our current d corps we should be adding to that not swapping at this time. |

He’s valuable because of the spreadsheet |

I think that if Severson doesn’t regain Hynes’ confidence and finds himself in the press box more times than the ice he will have minimal trade value. It’s frustrating aseeing a guy who got extended sit. Nurse logged plenty of minutes last season and brings an edge to his game. Numbers are similar |
