Unless Seabrook, Anisimov or Crawford is going to MTL/CAR, I hope the Hawks steer clear of Pacioretty and Skinner. If Bowman is sending assets for a player to help them this season, it needs to be a defenseman IMO.

Agree if bowman does a trade rather see for young players hawks need this type of player from said team the other team needs this type of player from the hawks.

Things to look forward to until the start of the new season:

Prospects camp
Convention
Rookie tourney in Traverse City
Training camp
Pre-season games

Training camp includes potential PTO invites. This season could be the year where multiple PTOs may earn spots if they sign for cheap for one year only and give the Hawks sound veteran experience.

There's also the August 15 deadline when prospects under contract can become free agents like Hayes, Vesey, and Butcher in past years. Are there any such prospects worth pursuing next month?

And Babe Ruth didn't hit a homer every at bat.
- Mr Ricochet

Look Matthews did a play-offs disappearing act - deal with it. Did you not read anything or see anything? Know who noticed? Babcock! Babcock benched him. Not just my opinion he disappeared - was the opinion of scores of hockey people. I don’t know where you live but if you missed this you are missing many things. Did you hear that there was such great tension between Babcock and Matthews that Babcock travelled to AZ to talk to Matthews. Why was this necessary? What do you think they talked about - how great Matthews had been?

This makes me very sad. Feel for his loved ones.
- BetweenTheDots

Very sad. I actually grew up in Hamilton. Not really a swimming area - heard he jumped off a boat. The area is basically Lake Ontario with all the inherent dangers an inland ocean has. Could have been current, undertow - any number of things if was truly accidental.

What if it's Anisimov and young assets for Panarin resigned at 8.5-9 mil a year 😉

Are scrimmages going to be live streamed at prospect camp??
- EnzoD

Don’t know about streaming since Mon-Thurs is drills. You should follow @ByScottPowers of the Athletic Chicago on Twitter because he often tweets video he takes himself. Also, he just posted an article about prospect camp.

I doubt the Hawks did anything - CapFriendly is just making a guess of who is going to be on the team. Probably to give a more accurate representation of cap space that is really available, kind of like when they moved Forsberg down to the non-roster section but he most definitely will have to pass through waivers to go to the AHL. I think they may be basing it partially on Sean Tierney's roster projections.

Yo, hard guy deal with what? Where in the above, whatever the hell you wrote, is the name Patrice Bergeron?

That's what I highlighted in whatever the hell was your last post when you so astutely claimed "but, but, but Bergeron doesn't shut down everyone". No sh*#, and Babe Ruth doesn't hit a homer every at bat.

Don't know where you live, don't care, but there are only a few, you seemingly being one of them, who would base any argument on Bergeron not being one of, if not the very best, shutdown players, not just centerman, on earth.

I'll simply let your words speak for themselves on that account.

Never uttered a syllable about Matthews but I'll also let your words about Matthews stand as well. That a 20 yr old C, playing 1st line, had a rough go vs the top shutdown player in the game and by extension is a bum.

Again I'll let your words speak for themselves on this account as well.

Same way I'll let your lack of ONE time posting Bovquist's name before he was drafted but post draft claim he was YOUR guy all along.

What would it matte if he didn't hit 65 points? I'm not sure which Canes player you're defending anymore, but both Skinner and Teravainen have only hit that mark once and both play a much less restrictive position as wing. If you look at mico stats, Schmaltz is pretty excellent in everything except shot volume - he's better than Skinner in most categories and on par with Teravainen for the most part. Like seriously:

I included charts for last year and the four-year option because Teravainen had a productive last season but his micro stats were below his typical standards so I wanted to show he's been historically good to great.

Edit: Some context: QOT and QOC are pretty much the same %; Schmaltz had 4% more OZ share but their DZ share are almost indistinguishable so TT just ended up with slightly more NZ deployment.

If Teravainen can get 65, chances are Schmaltz can based on their similar micro stats and production trends. Maybe Schmaltz would only do it if he switched to wing but it's objective / realistic estimation that Schmaltz could get in that point range. That's not hype - that's just basing it on predictive math.

Hi L_B_R, My point wasn't that Schmaltz isn't good, and he certainly could hit 65 points. That's not unreasonable. My point was that the guy was saying he had "Jason Spezza" type potential, which is nonsense, as in the prime of his run Spezza had 540 points in 495 games. I don't see Schmaltz getting anywhere close to that.

I think you're taking them too literally - they meant Spezza in style, not necessarily direct production. Considering how down points production is compared to when Spezza entered the league, it's hard for many young players to hit those marks anymore.

I wish I was, but he literally said he had PPG or better level production. That's all I was trying to get at.
