Isn't he the one who was basically responsible for Washington getting the tying and winning goals in game 5? Please God, no! - tvetter
Yea I have no earthly idea why they'd be interested in Sbisa. Yet another slug that is best suited for a bottom pairing role. Personally, I think that rumors is BS.
So what are the chances that Panarin comes back to the hawks? - MichaeLionheart
They are not bringing Panarin back.
And one reason is the comment he made in Russia a few years ago - about never dating a black woman. That did not sit well with upper management - people who are working hard trying to sell the game of hockey to minorities in Chicago.
I know at the time he said it, Panarin never dreamed he would be playing in America, but he did say it - and he owns it.
Another reason - although not as inflammatory - was at the World Championships two years ago - when he claimed to be tired for the playoffs, but felt refreshed for the WC. Management felt he did not have his priorities in proper focus - and maybe a change of scenery would fix it for him.
I did not pay attention to interviews he gave in Columbus, but I hope he has learned that what he says - no matter what language he says it in - can come back to bite him in the behind.
And another thing that was recently said to me by someone in the know - don't be surprised next summer if the offers for Panarin will be less than what he is looking for, and he returns to the KHL. Seems that between his mouth and his disappearing acts in the spring - he is driving his own value down. It's something to keep an eye on going forward.

That’s why I love Ovechkin. Closest thing to Roebuck I’ve seen. Skilled and will make a big hit. I hope 8 rides downtown Pittsburgh naked slugging beers giving those hill rods the bird. - SteveRain
Rainmain, I'm sure you meant Roenick.
But that brought to mind another great Seinfeld moment for me:
First for the guys who are still whining about the Hossa trade for Christ sake let it go. We'd much rather have a healthy Hossa than that cap space right now.
And oh hey its perfectly legal according to the same system that changed the rules after the Hawks made that deal.
Meanwhile - Where do the Hawks go from here.
Where is Crawford at? Physically? Mentally? Is he going to play? Until that's answered its a whole lot of ...? We've heard a wide range of possibilities...Crawford will miss the entire season to he's ready to start camp or he'll do handsprings at the convention.
Can Cam Ward carry this team this season if CC can't go?
After that they need a top 4 dman or two - that can actually play defense. Which would not include Faulk. He'd certainly improve the PP, but so would hiring Adam Oates to coach it.
You'd have to believe Schmaltz isn't going anywhere.
As far as Panarin - who knows. The Jackets aren't going to sit around and just let him walk at the end of the year - certainly he'll be moved to a team and extended. I kind of doubt its the Hawks based on cap space, but Panarin and Kane do have a lot of chemistry. The problem is these top heavy deals - particularly the Seabrook one - that the Hawks have too many of.
Can the Hawks make enough moves this summer to compete with the Jets and Preds - it remains to be seen. They could make a couple of moves and be more competitive for sure. Should be interesting to see what happens.

Agreed, Panarin's time in Chicago ended permanently with the trade to Columbus.
It didn't have to but it did. He might want to consider a different agent at some point.

He probably had Roebuck’s partner on his mind, after hearing he closed his las Chicago store....

While the Breadman might have said those kind of inflammatory remarks, I will give him pass for some of the reasons you stated. He was much younger and was not acclaimed...now it is entirely different as he has to toe the line and I am sure his advisors/agents have thoroughly briefed him about it. Now if this was said during his NHL tenure while with the Hawks or Jackets, that's a different story. One thing for sure, he has the backing of the players like Kane and Tazer and that would probably override most things. Oh, BTW the Breadman can play!!! And about his disappearing act in the spring? It takes many to tangle so blame must also be on Kaner, Tazer, Duncs, Seabs, etc and last season he almost single handedly pushed the Jackets past the Caps, up 2-0 and a fluke deflection in OT in game 3 led to their demise but it wasn't because of the Breadman.

Spent many an hour in that 6 corners store growing up. Sad. Badly mismanaged and another in a long line of names from our youth that couldn't figure out today's commerce and gone to the great shopping mall in the sky.

Seems like for the last 20 years, they did nothing but sell off assets - real estate, Kenmore, Craftsman - trying to fund staying alive - I’m surprised they lasted this long.
Sears, Crason’s, Field’s, Polk Bros. (Certainly on a smaller scale). Add in the banks that used to be regional financial powers - First National, Continental, American National, Exchange.
Achhh - I must be becoming a whining alte kaker....
His back checking/take aways are a very impressive part of his game. His vision is elite...yea, I'd like to see him shoot it more and win faceoffs. - kwolf68
Hey Wolf, Schmaltz lead the league in takeaways so he has a clue out there. Where I think he needs to improve is maintaining possession in traffic. That takes more strength and balls. He is tall so his face isn't always getting run into and he should learn to develop more leverage. Until he does he isn't worth huge money. And if it appears he won't put the work in to do so, like TT when he was here, then maybe they should wheel him in a trade. They just need to recognize if he's willing or not before the rest of the league does.

You want to play that game! Ok you win, is that what you wanted to hear out loud on this board? If you are going to single out one player in a team game, one that gets maybe 20 TOI and not a center or plays on the PK, then you are correct, Breadman disappeared. So if that's the case, where was Bobro, or Atkinson, etc in that same series who were so called bigger names going into the series. To make this case even further, where was Kaner in the Nashville sweep, Fleury in the loss to the Caps in the Cup. I can go on and on! Breadman's 3 years in the NHL has proven his status and he will get rewarded coming from a nobody in Russia (meaning 23 year old discovery when people are draft elgible at 17 years old)

Honestly, not posting to start some off - track left vs right debate, but...
If I was in my twenties, unattached, and I was asked, I would probably say, I never have dated black women or asian women, and are more simply attracted to a certain type...not to say,I couldn't met the right Asian/Black or "other" if in the right circumstances, they were in my sphere of friends.
Did he say I would never date a black women?
Could that be through translation (and even the prejudice of the translator) that made
have "ever been attracted / known " into I don't like black women?
I is kinda like asking Jonathan Toews or Dylan Sikura have they ever been attracted cute men, how does someone answer that w/o being considered a homophobe, when it is really more about preference?
For all I know Panarin said he simply doesn't like black woemn, they are not sexy, and started citing negative physical reasons....but out seems like the Hawk big brother compound that had Andrew Shaw spotting whatever came out of his mouth can't be too concerned with something that might be "lost in translation."
Still curious to see whats ahead. When is the convention?
I know its silly, but you know the trade is going to be right before the convention.... - mrpaulish
You just touched a nerve for me. Market the Fandemonium store, market all the peripheral bullpoop. But hockey FIRST, and it sells itself. Drives me nuts. Need a solid hockey person that's trusted in charge of hockey, and the marketing (frank) in charge of capitalizing off it. Not the other way around.

Thanks Wiz! My point exactly as he was young and in a country certainly not as diverse! And to have that held against him as player in the NHL is very stringent. Like I stated previously, if those were said while here in the NHL the past 3 seasons, then all bets are off. Let's give the "kid" a break until he does otherwise and let's talking be on the ice of which he is very good!

Except, of course, you said “...he almost single handedly pushed the Jackets past the Caps”.
If you can single out one player on the plus side, why not on the negative?
Schmaltz won't probably ever score a ton of goals, but 20 is pretty awesome considering how unselfish he is. You are right though, if he could be a bit more stingy, 30 is well within reach. Especially if he's playing with 88.
My dream is Schmaltz gets his faceoff game in the 47-48% range and he centers Kane. Look the heck out at that point. Last year, they were chasing a little too much, but they still drove a ton of possession. - kwolf68
The challenge here is Schmaltz staying on the ice. The guy has shown already a penchant for injuries and his build is not one for a heavy long season.
