He is not a "garbage goal" scorer who is often lurking around the net, ala Gallagher. He doesn't kill penalties. He does have a good motor and good hands but is basically an NHL/AHL tweener at this point.

Is it really fair to call Gallagher a "garbage goal" scorer, tho?
He gets some tips and rebounds, and drives the net, but the guy's always had a pretty accurate shot and he scores a lot of goals from distance, like high slot, high circle off slappers and wristers.
Martel strikes me as being similarly skilled. A guy with a good shot, with a modicum of puck skill, willing to hustle, and a dash of grit. He isn't shy about going to the net, and his office is right off the far-post (like a lefty Briere).
The question mark is skating, but Gallagher was able to overcome that because he has enough compete and just enough skill to compensate. Maybe Martel can do the same, if given a chance.
