If you were Stone, would u re-sign right away? Nope. Play it out, go to arb, and then hit UFA after next season and cash in and go to a team that could contend.

Same for Duchene. Play out the year and test UFA

The only blessing is that they might get you out of the bottom with them on your roster and lessen the chance of your pick winning the lottery. See where you are by the deadline and sell if you must.

So what's the storyline about Karlsson not liking the amount of bonus money he was offered? It's in an article I can't read because I may outside North America. Was that bonus money in the trade, extension or new contract from other teams?

The offer from the sens was normal salary rather than a lockout protected contract that was mostly signing bonus, like Tavares got.

Watch, Sens will trade Karlsson, then resign Duchene + Stone (naming him Captain)

Only thing is for Dorion to play him off other teams offers

Ok thanks.

So really, if they were Fair dinkum about wanting to sign him, they would restructure the contract.

I don't think they can as long as melnyk is owner. They are cash poor, no way they can pay 10-11 mil in one shot for one player, which is the way that type of contract would be. 95% paid in one shot at the beginning with the rest paid out on the normal pay schedule

Melnyk can't do that

As I was advised this week by another poster, contract structure limits how much can be paid when. Meaning the total contract has to be spread over the duration of the contract. A player can be paid a signing bonus each year but it is limited. So an organisation can't pay a player the bulk of his contract up front & run it down like Hossa for example.

They did for tavares.......his actual "salary" is o ly about 750k per year, the rest are yearly signing bonuses, which he gets in one payment each season.

Yes each bonus would be at the start of each season or a date determined. There's no big 1 off payment year 1. I understood your comment he wanted a massive payment at the start of year 1.
