I agree, they suck. But this is Karlsson. Captain, franchise player, two time Norris winner; they need at least one legit guy coming back the other way. Paying Nylander is a fair price for both sides and it's probably more than Tampa Bay or Dallas can offer. And the Leafs still come out ahead.

Just out of curiosity, how is it the Leafs could fit a team under the cap with 3 players making at least 11 shmill per?

I don’t hate the dream...but it seems like a chore to sign Nylander and Marner for what people are hoping to cheaper deals...and now another 11 million guy? I get it that Nylander is likely part of the deal but still..Marner, JT, A34 and EK making 40 million at least? More than half the cap in four guys?! 🤔

It would be worth it. Top 5 center depth in the entire NHL, one of the top 5 best defenseman in the entire NHL and, best of all, you prevent Tampa Bay from getting Karlsson.

The Leafs need a Karlsson just to compete with Tampa Bay as it is right now, just imagine if they get Karlsson too. You'll have to do double the work to get two elite defenseman just to match-up against Tampa Bay.

Acquiring Karlsson is one part improvement and one part making sure your direct opponent for the next 5-10 years doesn't improve at the same time.

While I don't think Dubas will over-react and then overpay for Karlsson simply because of the Tampa angle.. I do think we have enough pieces to get Karlsson..

For the record, I honestly don’t see Tampa being able to do it either. Especially having to sign Point and Gourde as well. It’s bananas

But I meant 4 guys making more than half the cap just doesn’t seem like a recipe for success. You have 5 guys not including EK making just under 38 million. Tampa would have to wheel and deal for sure...which makes me believe the Leafs would have to as well.
