Vasilevskiy plays behind a vastly better defense according to you and many others. I don't know if that is or isn't a factor.

All I know is that Vasilevskiy pays less taxes... so maybe he's less distracted during games.

Yeah they are because Karlsson is a Norris winning defenseman who almost carried a terrible Ottawa team, by himself, past Pittsburgh not too long ago. If in the right environment, with the skill they have up front to pass to, Karlsson and the Tampa Bay Lightning would destroy the majority of the competition.

Like I said before, they were up 3-2 against the Capitals. If they had Karlsson, they win the Cup. If they had Tavares, they win the Cup. They're already on the cusp of winning a Cup, adding another elite player just makes it that much easier.

If Karlsson's ankle/foot is permanently (frank)ed, then that could change things but I highly doubt Tampa Bay would be acquiring him without looking into that first.

They can be a problem if you're stuck against the cap and want to uprade your team on the short term, but it's nothing teams can't manage most of the time.

Tampa Bay could stand to improve defensively, yes, and that's what they're trying to do right now by adding a Norris winner. What have the Leafs done to improve their blueline? Sign an unknown from Russia and (frank) all else.
