Same. I think he's going to have a really good season based on what we saw in the second half of last season.
- Ftown19125

Again he was recovering still from the sugery G and Ghost had the year before during the first half of the season last year so yeah I expect the second half to be more indicative of the real Patrick

Exactly. I remember reading he wasn't really a fast skater anyway, but I remember seeing him burning people quite a few times later in the season and was really surprised by how quick he looked.

Fixed.

In the prospect poll on HFB, so far it's:

1. Frost, Morgan - 84%
2. Myers, Phil - 80%
3. Farabee, Joel - 84%
4. O'Brien, Jay - 42%
5. Allison, Wade - 41%
6. Ratcliffe - 61%

Raddysh and Katchouk would be ranked up there with JOB, Wade and Rat.

I think we just need to face it. Unless Frost absolutely blows them away in camp or Vecchione and/or Weal can show that they can be an effective bottom 6 centers and contribute on the PK, our bottom six centers are going to be Laughton and Lehtera.

Doesn't mean that it will stay that way all season, but I think that's how it's going to start.

- BiggE

Or understand Giroux would make the team more balanced in the middle.

Edit

Someone just two days ago made the comment that Brayden Schenn who just had a career season as a number one center with the Blues would be the fourth best center on this team behind Couturier, Patrick, Laughton and Frost. That’s just an assinine comment. This isn’t a Schenn argument, it’s just common logic. I sometimes feel like we fool ourselves in believing our players from top to bottom compares to other teams. I think we have good talent but at the end of the season, we’re a bubble team.

Lies, the only reason people want them is because they play on the same junior team as Frost, apparently.

I give you points for persistence, but barring a significant injury to one of Coots or Patrick, it's not happening.

Of course there is. But yeah, unless there's a long-term injury to Couturier or Patrick, Giroux will primarily be a LW this year.

I once saw a 32 year old Danny Briere go from winger to center and light up the 2010 playoffs. He was originally a center, Played wing for a season (Hartnell-Carter-Briere), Went back to center where he was need most.

Was that the playoffs where their #2 center, Jeff Carter, broke his foot in the first round and was expected to be out for the remainder of the playoffs?

If the Flyers are in the playoffs and Patrick breaks his foot and is expected to miss a month, then sure, I think moving Giroux to center would be a good possibility.

Pretty sure Briere was moved back to wing to start the next season.

I think both the position switch and the fact that he was 100% heathy going into he year helped giroux have his big year, but I would place more emphasis on the health aspect of it. I would have no problem really with moving him back to center. They actually are thinner there for this year. I’m sure they’ll try Laughton again in preseason and to start the season at 3C. I’d be surprised if it goes well

He was.

I'm as big of a Danny Briere stan as there is, but Danny Briere was a much better wing than he was a center, regardless of the numbers he hung up in 07-08 playing primarily at center ice (his advanced stats were surprisingly bad, in retrospect). He was just OK on faceoffs. Moving him to wing was the absolute right thing to do.

I disagree on the thinner aspect. I think Laughton is an upgrade at 3C over Filppula. Just mt 2 cents.

It's all fluid, we know that. Giroux, barring an injury to the top 2 pivots, will start the season on wing. Could he at some point be moved to center even if it's not because of injury. Sure, it's always possible. If they are 15-20 games in and struggling to score at ES, all kinds of changes will be on the table.

However, while I don't think he's the 2nd coming of Fred Shero, I also don't think Hak is an idiot. He saw how well it clicked last year with Giroux at LW playing with Couturier at center. He's not going to break that combo up on a whim or without a damn good reason.

We’ll just disagree. I hope laughton proves me wrong. I think he’s more effective on the wing and could possibly stick at 3rd line LW.

Hak wouldn't even put Giroux back at center in a playoff series when Couturier was out injured.

2018 Giroux is more left wing than Jacinda Adern.

Lindblom seems like the obvious choice at 3LW, though.
