Karlsson foot injuries: a severed tendon, cut by a skate. Healed. Broken ankle. Surgery. Healed. These aren’t equivalent to knee, shoulder, or back surgeries. If someone breaks their hand, you don’t assume he’s going to have hand issues. Smh

Every pound of a human being's weight rests on what parts of the body???
(And don't say that its both human being's hands.)
How have the defensive games of Staal and Girardi been for their own ability levels & contributions since after the 2015 E.C. Finals loss to Tampa, when they were each then 3 years younger at ages 28 and 31, respectively?
There's an in part reason why they were not at their best level defensively, after formerly rated for a few seasons as being part of the NHL's top 4 best defensive crew through the prior 2014 Cup Finals season.
Both d'men required ANKLE SURGERY after that 2015 ECF loss to Tampa. You don't think that played in part a reason why they both then lost a step, which lowered their overall game performance level somewhat with age due to their ankle injuries and possible complications? And in having two foot surgeries, including one to rebuild an ankle, Karlsson is now age 28.
Furthermore, any tear or fracture suffered by ANY HUMAN BEING makes them more easily susceptible with age to suffering a repetitive injury to that same body part, and in key at the same precise location. It will also affect their performance level due to them not being physically able to perform up to the equal ability level they once could during their earlier prime age years.
