Ankles aren’t the same as hands. It’s not just the injuries, it’s 2 years of him under 30 and 7 years over 30. Look statistically at guys careers, the decline starts around 30/31 +/- a year depending on the player. Obviously there’s exceptions but it’s a pretty good standard. - nyrangers9479
c'mon, you can't just use the usual age and decline stuff for an exceptional player like Karlsson...
Any other year and there would not have been questions IF the Rangers should sign him or not.
For sure the timing sucks, but to say NO to a generational talent like that if he's not gonna cost too f'n much...

Nash follows the same decline after 30.
So anyone advocating for us to sign Karlsson for 2 years sub 30 and 7 years over 30 please look at how the last 5 big signings/trades have done after 30.

He had offseason surgery. Missed training camp and start of season... and still finished with 62 points... as a defenseman... 9 more than anyone on Rangers. This isn’t a type of injury that is a risk of recurring. 28,29,30,31,32... 5 full seasons before he’s the age Burns was when he won Norris. He’s younger than Doughty, who just got an 8 year deal. Plenty of teams that want him. Most can’t fit him. We have a chance to lock up a premier player you do it. It’s not about thinking we can win the cup next year. It’s about having the guy as our team gets rolling

Bc he’s an exceptional player he’s immune to injury’s and age catching up to him?

It’s 2 years under 30... 1 year of 30... 6 years over 30.

I'm pretty sure most of the people on here would have no issue getting Karlsson. The problem is Ottawa is only going to take back picks and cost controlled young players. So basically we lose 1st rounders and most likely some good prospects for only 1 guaranteed year of Karlsson. If Karlsson decided to test the market after next year the Rangers would be in a heap of trouble. I think they just need to wait to see if he hits UFA when it will just cost money. imo

These are forward stats, those guys peak earlier than D and transition from goal scorers to putting up assists.
D mature later and have a longer shelf life putting up points. Karlsson's foot injuries could quite possibly come back to hurt him later in that contract. Any player of his caliber is going to be looking for a really long contract on a contender, and I can't blame him for wanting max $$$$$$$$$ AND a shot(or 2) at the Cup. Don't see it happening here in the next few years, although I would really like this rebuild to last until this year's TDL.

Wow!
Am I the only guy worried about his feet? By te end of that contract he might be in a wheelchair and we will be eating $11.000,000 of empty cap.

Exactly the reason I don't want to trade for him. I think Melnyk won't find a buyer possibly until the TDL, if then. Bizarre scenario with the top D on the market with no buyers right now since no team wants to dump a boatload of prospects to take on someone that might walk at the end of the season.
