There is no possible deal that works for a Sens/Rangers deal. Melnyk is crazy. He wants off load a maximum amount of salary. HE does not want to take back any salary other than for prospects on entry level contracts or picks.

And then add in the craziness of melnyk wanting to include Bobby Ryan.

- spatso

I’ve read elsewhere that Ryan has never been proposed and that was merely speculation. Seems like the hold up is he’s screwed up so much that now he’s playing everybody off of each other in hopes he gets perfect deal so he don’t have to take more crap

the rangers would be better served to keep the untouchable list together and wait on panarin. financially it makes more sense and you lose no one in the core. team could be set for years to come.

I want Panarin next Summer and if Karlsson isn't demanding the keys to the city then maybe him too

Helping get Karlsson to Tampa is a win win, we can acquire a prospect and/or pick plus strengthen our conditional pick for 2019, gotta be involved

Me too. Sign them both next year instead of sending the future to Ottawa.

TSN reported today that Dallas is very much back in at the top of the Karlsson trade rumors. There's also word that Edmonton has upped whatever earlier trade offer they made, and they have someone who can help Ottawa right now that the Rangers do not, by the name of DRAISAITL.
Although better than taking on bad contracts like Callahan's, (pending whatever's added), to help Tampa acquire E.K., I'm not giving up top prospects just acquired 5 months into a rebuild, for one that has had severe foot injuries & a rebuilt ankle, who will be near his upper 30's at the end of a minimum $11M/8 year term. The Rangers have wisely stated they would not take on Ryan's 4 year/$7.25M per, which is the only way Karlsson's trade cost will lower. That would prevent them in being active both via trades & next summer(s) free agency for the elite. Vegas is for now the only team very interested in E.K. still willing to do so.
Karlsson in seeking IN EXCESS of Doughty's $88M over 8 years, has a Modified NTC of 10 teams not to be dealt to, should FIRST & FOREMOST, Melnyk DOES NOT SELL the franchise. Tampa just happens to have his friend in Victor Hedman playing there. E.K. spent this past season's All Star weekend festivities held in Tampa, residing at Hedman's home, in being part of the game & Skills Competition, (re, Friday's "Tampa Bay Times", cc, Martin Fennelly). Fennelly wrote that while there, "Karlsson JOKED (?) "he'd found his new home", and wants to be here". Tampa also has the best young assets to deal for him of the teams heavily interested. But if Melnyk doesn't sell, "HE" likely wouldn't want a DRAISAITL like player who's signed long term ($8.5M), or a Kucherov who will command after this season, much more long term than his current $4.77M.

And just think, Tom, you want to convince everyone to "TANK", while I am only trying to get some to not rush a rebuild as a non-contender in the incorrect and riskiest of means. That, in trading at a high cost for a star NHL player to be paid even higher for the longest of term, whose past severest of foot injuries pose that big risk of a downfall in his game.
Wasn't it just under a year ago that some were thinking the same of McDonagh when here, and that they would have to also pay him around $7M on a new long term deal, while the team was declining under A.V.? McDonagh hasn't had the severity of foot injuries that Karlsson has had, despite him playing that one postseason as long as possible with that one severe foot injury he has ever suffered.

They should tank. I have not waivered on that opinion once.

But how about some members', one in particular, logic when comparing this to the situation when they were worried of McDonagh's decline under those conditions, with him then being due a year plus later, a new long term deal?

I get that people are hesitant going after Erik Karlsson, i am too. There are legit injury concerns and his contract will be very very big.

But...

This is the list of D-men better then Erik Karlsson:

I was on the Milan Lucic train....4/5 years ago when he still could be a a$$hole and score 20-25 goals a year but now?

There are exceptions to every rule. In this case the rule is rebuild and the exception is Karlsson. One step back on the rebuild in this case would equal 2 steps forward. Players of his caliber are rarely available. Maybe he turns into Shea Weber V2.0 but if he doesn't.... Shot and score! Not a single superstar gets signed without a risk of some sort. Money/health/decline etc.

I was opposed up until they were finally out of it. Once the TDL came around and we had a fire sale, I'm ok with the rebuild now. I just hated the talk of tanking while there was still 3/4 of a season to go. It was annoying. imo
