Agreed, I mean why would you not rent a player for Sixto Sanchez +/- Efflin ++ with no guarantees he re-signs when you could just wait til the offseason where he tests FA and attempt to sign him then for just money? This is definitely the time to empty the farm considering they're only Machado away from winning a WS right?
- Giroux_Is_God

Whoever trades for him is almost certainly going to sign him. That's why I do the trade now. I get what you're saying. But when it's a player of his quality I take the shot when it's available.

I would trade for machado and kawhiLeonard. Cause I don't think philly gets either via free agency. Trout is the only guy who will be here via ufa in 2 years

I'm watching the Angels right now. Kind of funny that they have a massive Jersey Mike's sign on the outfield wall behind him at their park.

Almost certainly going to sign him? The odds of him signing an extension after the trade is next to 0. It's all but a guarantee he tests FA. Could he re-sign with the team he gets traded to? Sure. But he is hitting free agency.

Just replace Weise with....well, basically anyone, and it’s all good.

Guys, NAK will be given a legit shot to make the team this year, just like Leier was.

I think NAK has a better shot at sticking than Leier. He’s bigger, more skilled, grittier and a decent skater. I don’t love Lehtera at 4C, but flank him with Raffl and NAK and that’s a pretty solid 4th line.

I frequently walk past a Jersey Mike’s shop in a shopping center up the street from my home and see a fair number of people walking in and out with purchases. It sickens me.

Just a few thoughts;
1. Frost is NOT AHL eligible so it is Flyers or back to Juniors. If he gets 3C spot, who are our penalty killers? That was the glaring weakness last season and a point of improvement for Hexy this off-season. Unless you use Coots or Simmer primarily on PK you will be increasing their minutes and fatigue. Raffl, Laughton, Lehtera, ??? I was hoping that the 3C signing or trade would fill the PK void for us. Is Lindbolm a PK? Rolling 3 strong lines is an advantage but doesn't address our weakness. Still need to fill that PK void (Leier?).
2. Lyon is a solid goalie but I personally don't see him as an NHL starter. Stolie was ahead of him prior to injury and (IMO) as long as Stolie is healthy and playing to his old form he is ahead of Lyon. We had to sign him as he is an important piece, but Lyon is not an answer in net for us. Depth.
3. Can't wait for camp to start. Lots of good conversation leading up to it. Should be a fun few weeks. I do believe that you need to let the "kids" play and get experience. I'd rather see Sanheim, Myers, or Hagg making mistakes as opposed to Gudas who should know better by now.

G, Coots, TK
JVR, Patrick, Jake
Lindbolm, Frost, Simmer
Leier, Laughton, Raffl
Weise, Weal, Lehtera

Provy, AMac (Morin when healthy)
Ghost, Hagg
Sanheim, Myers
Frolin
Gudas (?)

Elliott
Nuevy (?)

Exactly he wants to see the Yankees back the truck up. It's going to happen.

Rather have a bottom 6 of:

Lindblom-Laughton-Simmer
Raffl-Vex-NAK
Or (if they legit are thinking Weal can be 3C)

Raffl-Laughton-NAK

Just letting a player keep making mistakes is not really the best way to develop a player. If a player still needs refinement to his game, sometimes the best place to do that is in the AHL.

If Vecchione can kill penalties, I’d be fine with him at 4C. I don’t see Weal making the cut at 3C. He’s weak defensively and isn’t a PKer.

I don't know if there really is a magic number. He's around 181, 182 now. So, if they want him at 185, but he's 182 and playing great and looks, by far, to be the best 3C option they have, you really think they send him back just because he didn't gain another 3 pounds?

Agreed. But even if their game is "NHL-ready" the mistakes will still happen. I would hope that they learn from these mistakes and not continue to make them. Provy has made some mistakes that you don't always see him make a second time. Rather have a kid making a dumb pass or bad turnover than someone with several years NHL experience like Gudas. Hopefully, they learn from it and move on.

I guess my point is Gudas or Frolin is not the missing piece for a Stanley Cup contender. I'd rather see one of our young studs in there getting experience. That way, when the pieces do come together, our d corps is the envy of the league.

I want to see them getting the experience also but not to the point where they are overwhelmed and it's become detrimental to their development.
