One of the reasons I argued that Gaunce was good enough for our 4rth line but the consensus around here was replace him with more capable NHLers. Then the consensus became fill needs from within all of a sudden after July 1.

except it is hard to find these guys at the price you want to pay.

Would one of these guys get grabbed in the expansion draft possibly? Maybe... - boonerbuck
I am hoping Eriksson gets picked up by expansion draft, give up a second |

Your worries are unfounded, Pettersson will score 60 points this year, 25 of them on the PP, he'll also win the Calder Trophy, just for good measure. The second Canuck ever behind Bure to win it!! - LeftCoaster

Roussel got the same term as Komorov Clutterbuck and Dorsett. I have no issue with his contract one bit.
Beagle you can bury his final year many ways - VANTEL
We are a few years too late on Roussel. I do like him and his style of play he fits but it’s too much. He would have got half that anywhere else.
Beagle and his contract is as bad as Loui Eriksson. 22 points is not worth that money or term. I would be very surprised if he played 60 games and got 20 points.
Scnmecky or whatever his name is will be in Utica. |

knowing nothing about prospects available, when we drafted him, he looked like a big kid that put up some okay numbers.
turns out he doesn't have much edge to his game, very little offense, but is okay defensively and loves harry potter.
I want more. hope these guys we signed work out. |

For me the problem is we aren’t really addressing holes in the line up. We ar just adding bodies and going with the same old line of create competition for the young guys. JB and company aren’t really filling the needs. Gifting veteran spots piszes me off so much. I wouldn’t rather see young guys with speed make mistakes and score some goals than gift these guys with spots and contribute very little offensively. |

I think this years team will be more attack than defend. The transition game on the D will stink . Pouliot will be your best guy for that so it tells you what type of shape we are in.
The good news in there is help on the way.

I saw this in the comments on CA:
Age of players once the current 4 year contracts expire:
Jett Woo – 22
Quinn Hughes – 23
Jack Rathbone – 23
Dipietro – 23
Kole Lind – 24
Elias Pettersson – 24
Jonathan Dahlen 24
Jonah Gadjovich – 24
Olli Juolevi – 24
Adam Guadette – 25
Brock Boeser 26
Thatcher Demo – 26
Nikolay Goldoben 26
Bo Horvat 27
Nikita Tryamkin 27
Sven Bartschi – 29
This is a slow cook, development model JB&TL should have adopted years ago, but here we are drafting in the top 10, piling up a good core and developing them to have a very competitive team come 2022. There’s no speeding this up our core is young it’s going to take time, but fun to watch these top 10 talents play for Van City.
Still not sure how all these younger guys will turnout and who will still be with the team, and other changes, 4 years from now.
It is interesting to see the age spread and think drafting and developing has to be a constant.
I'm not expecting much this season, hopefully EP can centre a line or be paired with a capable offensive centre (not Bo) and not sure who that would be. 2 offensive lines would be fun to watch.
(should I be saying two lines of offence? ) |

He is a dam fine player. Best of the bunch. His signing isn’t bad I just don’t get what whee he fits at this point. Another mentor for JV? THe only thing I can think of is trade fodder at the deadline.

If I had my way this is the line up trading Sutter, Gagner, Hutton, Gaunce and Nilsson for whatever pics in 2019 we could get! |

Each team is so different from when they started, to who they started and ended with. A province writer compared Shanahan to Linden. Two totally different situations.
Some people just don't see the middle ground. Either wearing sunglasses or it's total darkness. JB clearly isn't perfect, no GM is. We as fans can see that there are talented hockey players coming. Might be one a year or two in one year. They are going to help Bo and Brock. Until they get here, Van needs players (poopty signings like LE, Gagner) to allow complimentary players develop. I don't really care how many picks Van has as long as they get the players they want. There is only so much room on the roster.
From 2010- 2016 Leafs had 53 picks. Pretty much 5 players in that time made the NHL. 4 first round picks and 1 6th. - manvanfan
Cherry pick much?
Why did you choose that time period? Go back two years earlier and that number jumps up by 4.
2012-2016 results in the same 5 players making the NHL.
If you're being honest with yourself, the draft is a crapshoot. The teams who are good at drafting still miss on most their picks. The reason why Toronto is seen as successful during this rebuild is because they have acquired lots of picks. |

Let's have another go round of Virtanen and McCann. The results will be different this time.

How many of those prospects will make the NHL. Two names to keep an eye on this year are Palmu and MacMaster. Two names right off the radar. The thing about prospects is you never know who.
I don't know if Gadjovich will ever be a Canuck. He has as much of a chance IMO as undrafted Zack MacEwan
