Did Garth have to play out the Sedins contracts in those 5 years? It would have been easier if they were two old useless players that could be buried as long term injury or something like a buyout etc....
I said when all this crying started 4-5 years ago it would take longer here because of circumstances. The number I threw around was actually 8 years before this team is relevant in the playoffs. I stand by my timeline. No, I'm not happy about it but I faced it a long time ago and it wasn't Benning mess at the time. I also said the people who couldn't handle a rebuild here would make it painful for everyone else. I stand by that as well.
Vantel predicted that Gillis extending the Sedins would do this and was against it. I know where you stood... against him. Now here we are and funny who's to blame... Benning. - boonerbuck
He had to deal with Yashin's 7.6 million dollar a year contract and a very old team with zero propects, so not really any different than the Islanders. Yashin was signed until the sun explodes and he was still a good player even though he was 33.
Snow actually drafted really well when he got to the Islanders, unfortunately Wang wouldn't spend any money when those kids got good. |

Its probably looking pretty dismal to Marwood. He thought the Sedins were needed for a season or two more. They took the choice from Benning by retiring and it is definitely going to be felt in the on ice results.
I predict a couple of kids will blossom some hope for my bud brother.

IMO they could see the Canucks are in for a long rebuild and they'd had enough of the losing. |

Goal!! 1-0 England
Nice to see the ref being light on the whistle as England and Sweden bump and grind away. Notice, not a single roll around and everyone back on their feet in a heartbeat.

My point is the two Sedin investment and them playing well until the very end. The owner committed to a group of players and then there was no backing out. It played out til this spring... players the owner planned to monetize as long as he could. Even if they waived, its two payers and nearly impossible to make work. The commitment to them literally bogged the team's rebuild down in the mud. Gillis and the owner are the biggest reason this rebuild is in extended mode. Benning hasn't accelerated the process of getting out... fair enough. Others could have dug out quicker surely. The blame you dump can be pretty ignorant though.

JB will once again be implementing the stealth tank
seriously though its the best thing for us at this point
ofc beagle and roussel's contracts are a little bit long but none of JB's UFA signings have really cost us anything but $ in the grand scheme of things - BobBot

Putin would put a sniper to kill Kane if he tried to score in that game. |

I dont mind that he doesnt get the appreciation he deserves from other fan bases.
Kind of makes it a little more extra special to us.
The amazing things Alex Burr achieved through sheer will, and hard work is pretty incredible. Not too mention Several Season/Playoff/Career defining moments in Canucks history which are engraved in my memory.
An all time favourite of mine who I believe should be in the ROH. - vancity787
What he achieved coming out of the ECHL is nothing short of amazing. |

Next summer would be my guess - VANTEL
It all hinges on how close we are to the PO's for the teams 50th anniversary season. You can bet Aqua-feenie wants the team in by then. If we are not close then sweeping changes will be made. |

I agree. Both sides of the Atlantic but you can find exceptions. In south America it is Argentina. Historically they've been a honourable squad. It's my America's team since Canada doesn't go. I'll cheer the USA on when they make it just because I like to see the sport grow in North America.

The main argument was that we’d prefer 1 more year mainly for Henrik as a stopgap C instead of overpaying a UFA C since the team will suck again anyway
I think everyone realized that the Sedins were a liability at 5v5 last year |

I chose this. Let them walk and dont sign any top 6 players. Maybe trade for one if it adds a pick/prospect. Hopefully that plays out as well.

Burrows' biggest career mistake was playing for a team in the colonies instead of Toronto. If he'd done for the Leafs what he did in Vancouver, he'd have been a true Canadian legend. Gord Downie would have written a song about him. Don Cherry would have had suits made in his honor. There'd be successful poutine franchises named after him. And maybe, just maybe, he'd have gotten his picture taken with Dougie Gilmour and Wendell Clarke.
Now that he's an assistant coach in the AHL he can pass on what he's learned: Get better representation. - YeOldTimer
