We won’t be the first or last to say that four years is too much term for Jay Beagle and Antoine Roussel. That said, drafting Quinn Hughes — a potential power-play quarterback for years — was a major win, and re-signing Sven Baertschi for a $3.37 million cap hit might look like a bargain if he keeps raising his game.

30. New York Islanders

Finally stripping Garth Snow of his power: Check mark. Hiring Barry Trotz at top dollar: Check mark. Losing the face of the franchise for nothing and then signing Leo Komarov for four years: Uh-oh.

31. Ottawa Senators

An utter gong show. Mike Hoffman and his 30 goals are gone, No. 1 goalie Craig Anderson wants out, and all signs point to Erik Karlsson’s departure. Next up: Sens fans can look forward to Mark Stone’s arbitration case. There’s a silver lining, however. We like the Brady Tkachuk pick."

Just reading article about teams that improved so far during the off-season, it apprears no one thinks Vancouver, the NYI's and Ottawa have improved?

JB will once again be implementing the stealth tank

seriously though its the best thing for us at this point

ofc beagle and roussel's contracts are a little bit long but none of JB's UFA signings have really cost us anything but $ in the grand scheme of things

I know you like to bury your head in the sand with your pom-poms when it comes to other teams vs the Canucks situation, which makes debating with you pointless, so I'll leave you to your fantasy world.

Just so you know, the Senators have made the playoffs 15 times in the past 20 seasons, the Canucks 11. Despite the Canucks playing in the weakest division in hockey for a lot of those years.

The only thing we'd probably agree on is the Sens are currently in a messy situation, however, both them and the Canucks have some good prospects. Which you probably wouldn't acknowledge from a Sens perspective.

TBL ....karlson
Van.....sergachev and insert big contract (callahan??)
Ott......Tanev....and try to get dorian to take Erikson

Some of these trade proposals are way way out there. Let me assure you Vancouver are not part of the 3 way deal. The third team that is involved is the Rangers

What does anything in this review have to do about where the Canucks are going to place in the standings. What does Beagle’s and Roussel’s terms mean for this year?

even Garth Snow had the Islanders in the playoffs in six years after taking over from the poop-show team Milbury destroyed. Benning has his work cut out for him making the playoffs in his sixth year.

Did Garth have to play out the Sedins contracts in those 5 years? It would have been easier if they were two old useless players that could be buried as long term injury or something like a buyout etc....

I said when all this crying started 4-5 years ago it would take longer here because of circumstances. The number I threw around was actually 8 years before this team is relevant in the playoffs. I stand by my timeline. No, I'm not happy about it but I faced it a long time ago and it wasn't Benning mess at the time. I also said the people who couldn't handle a rebuild here would make it painful for everyone else. I stand by that as well.

Vantel predicted that Gillis extending the Sedins would do this and was against it. I know where you stood... against him. Now here we are and funny who's to blame... Benning.

Its probably looking pretty dismal to Marwood. He thought the Sedins were needed for a season or two more. They took the choice from Benning by retiring and it is definitely going to be felt in the on ice results.

I predict a couple of kids will blossom some hope for my bud brother.

I dont mind that he doesnt get the appreciation he deserves from other fan bases.

Kind of makes it a little more extra special to us.

The amazing things Alex Burr achieved through sheer will, and hard work is pretty incredible. Not too mention Several Season/Playoff/Career defining moments in Canucks history which are engraved in my memory.

An all time favourite of mine who I believe should be in the ROH.

Burrows' biggest career mistake was playing for a team in the colonies instead of Toronto. If he'd done for the Leafs what he did in Vancouver, he'd have been a true Canadian legend. Gord Downie would have written a song about him. Don Cherry would have had suits made in his honor. There'd be successful poutine franchises named after him. And maybe, just maybe, he'd have gotten his picture taken with Dougie Gilmour and Wendell Clarke.

Now that he's an assistant coach in the AHL he can pass on what he's learned: Get better representation.

Going into the season optimistic, the younger players hopefully take a step forward. Oldest player in Vans top 6 might be 25 years old.
Bottom 6 upgraded and added depth from last season.
If they can get better gaoltending, dont see why they cant be a .500 hockey club.

A little added toughness might lessen a few of the injuries.
