No, it's Nashville's problem. Someone posted what happens if he retires in exactly 3 years. Nashville has like a $26 MILLION dollar cap recapture penalty

Edit:

- jcragcrumple

I don't think he will retire early. If it gets to where he can't play out his contract, I think he will just go on LTIR. Guess it would come down to who he would want to screw over more, Montreal or Nashville?

To Tampa. - Karlsson, 2nd Rd Pick Buf, 6th rd pick Buf
To Ottawa - Pominville/Bogosian, Package from Tampa
To Buffalo - JT Miller, Anton Stralman

- ImThatGuy

Didnt they just resign Miller? This is not a video game, they have to make sense. They would be trying to trade a winger with 1-3 years left (not named Kucherov) cause they wont be able to resign over a guy they just resigned for 5 years.

This league. If they allow that.... come on. They put in this penalty and has any team (yet) had to deal with it?

Not sure if it was the same rule, but LA is still paying a recapture penalty on Richards.

tricky line to walk, i think its absolutely OK to punish teams who abused a loophole in the salary cap

Good call. Not sure if that is the same as they terminated his contract. But he signed that contract as part of the Flyers. So not sure it is the same thing.

If Karlsson goes there the guy I would try to poach from TBL would be Stralman to play with Dahlin.

Dahlin-Stralman
Scandella-Risto
McCabe-Bogosian
Beaulieu and Nelson as extras.

Guhle and Pilut can dominate the AHL for half the season until they push McCabe out of a spot and then beualieu can be sent through waivers or traded for a bag of pucks.

No it doesn't, it's good starting point.
- SABRES 89

Girgensons, Baptiste and (now all the sudden he's a top 4 D man? 😂) McCabe? I don't think so. Panarin is a top 5 winger. Who wants that trash? We're not even sure Baptiste our Girgs cracks THIS lineup, and Columbus is supposed to jump all over that?

Also, a little different, but didn't Detroit have the same thing with Datsyuk? They were able to trade his hit to AZ I believe.

I think Killorn and Callahan are the guys that move though tbh. But not bad to dream.

I still think that was different. If you get hit with this penalty, no way you can just trade that penalty to another team. Good findings though.

If they acquire Karlsson They would have 9 D-men on the roster. (I assume one goes in return to Ottawa).

Plus Miller is the only forward without a NMC.

"a solid top 6/potentially top 4 d-man" were my exact words...and btw McCabe has a very real shot at being in the top 4 for Columbus

Girgs and Baptiste are two guys who show flashes of potential and play a torts type of game (non-stop max effort)

All that being said...you've glossed over TWO first round picks...with the option of 1 becoming a non-lottery-protected 2020 pick.....and Nylander.

Would we have to tweek the offer a bit to get C-bus to bite? Probably. But we get Eichel his winger and C-bus gets rid of a guy who doesn't want to stay there and acquires a significant haul that can help them both short term (McCabe, Girgs, Baptiste) and long term (Nylander, 1st rounders). How is that not a win-win for both teams?

Thx, neither have I. I'm interested to hear from Berglund. People don't like the 4 years at 3.8, but I'm intrigued by him. 3.8 seems about right for what he brings
