as a paying customer, am I not entitled to an opinion? In my opinion, since he has taken the position as president, he has contradicted himself, with opposite decision making actions, at Q+A's (summit), Radio Interviews, Media Interviews. Either he has some say in some of the awful decision making this franchise has made, or he doesn't, and in that case, why is he there? - Codes1087
As a paying costumer or not a paying costumer, you have the right to your opinion, but...in my opinion you are just bashing Linden based on an opinion and you have not an ounce of insight into who Trevor Linden is or what his roles and responsibilities entail.
I like this site, I like most of the posters, I like a lot of the conversations and bantering back and forth everyone seems to partake in. Although all this unwarranted personal attacks on specific people is a bit deflating. Seriously, Benning and his hair, the way he speaks, dim Jim references, and Linden only good for sunglasses commercials, riding a bike. The guy is self made, same with Benning, they have both achieved more than 95% of most people in life.
As a paying customer for the entertainment that is provided by a private owner, sure complain about the product, but I don’t understand mocking a persons looks or speech or successes in life.
Not pointing fingers at you Codes, just making a disappointing observation with a lot of posts lately, and if 2 people do it next day it’s 6, day after 20 and so on. |

I agree, I don’t buy it either but look at the latest post on the Hughes thread at HF - Nucker101
if its the picture im thinking of (behind them both on the bench?), then its the camera angle making them look more even than reality |

My gripe with linden has never been personal, nor do i make fun of bennings physical appearance. I get your dissapointment, but i have tried to back up my dislike for his work with, what i thought, was fact based points. He is an athlete, and obviously was a heck of a hockey player, i just dont like how he runs a professional sports team as president.

Unless there's some sort of metric/exchange rate in effect, I'm very confident that Hughes is not six feet. From what I saw in Denmark (judging from how he looked on the ice, I didn't talk to him face to face), I think 5'10" is generous.
I am going to the game on Thursday. Hope to have more on this burning issue then!

People constantly attack Bennings IQ and appearance. I’m sure he is a reasonably intelligent dude or he wouldn’t have his position. Lots of people struggle with public speaking
Edit. I guess it’s difficult because it’s a message board and you can’t tell somebody’s intent. I call Neem an idiot daily but I don’t think he is actually stupid lol. We just don’t agree. If I thought he wasn’t intelligent I wouldn’t criticize him. Don’t want to sound like a hypocrite 😳 |

So everyone is doing some investigating.
Apparently Tyler Soy is a legit 6 foot tall player and Hughes apparently looks just as tall as him in development camp...
So if that’s true, was Hughes purposely trying to tabk his draft stock to avoid MTL/OTT horror shows? Was he trying to get drafted close to home in Detroit or Chicago?
His stock 100% goes up if he measured 6’ foot at the combine
Pure speculation since everyone is just eyeballing his height lol - Nucker101
I bounced that idea myself a week ago or less. Only speculation but I think he's that kind of player. Why I want him signed before camp as well. I think he's the kind of kid who is playing chess all the way. Using the negative talk to fall between the cracks to a more desirable place. I'm still not sold that Vancouver was one of those teams either.
I don't think he's 6' but I do think he's at least 5'10" possibly my height, 5'11". He seemed like he was avoiding any argument against all these reports of 5'7" to be honest. It didn't seem to ruffle his ego which I think he has no shortage of. He seemed coy talking about it the other day as well. Very sheepish. Even mentioned making the critics work for him. So the speculation has a little support.
When the rumour came out about him not having good interviews, I felt this supported the idea but who knows if that was true as well. I do sense Hughes is the kind of guy who will go after what he sees as the future he wants. Just have to make sure that is the Canucks and get him signed. It's not a training camp decision like people keep suggestion with the wait and see approach.... there's no wait til after camp. There's no camp without a contract. He's good enough for Utica imo. He'd rather pro than college... sign him.

That’s probably pure bs. Hughes looks small next to Woo who is 6ft. Soy is lying about his height? - CanuckDon
That's funny because it looked to me that Hughes was at most 2 inches shorter than Woo.

Im not sure if it makes him look smaller or taller, but ive watched Soy for 4 years on the royals and he always looked small and lanky to me. He was always skinny while playing in Victoria. |

It's funny when people in hockey that have no love for Benning go out of their way to correct the theme that Benning is a bumbling idiot. They even mention how he's soft spoken and not very articulate but they say make no mistake, he's intelligent person who's been in hockey his entire life and has a lot of respect from his peers. Burke was the most recent.

I'm tired of the contradictions and saying one thing and doing another. I think this is a fair place to voice one's frustrations. I was happy with the draft and pissed with free agency. I'm not thrilled with Linden or Benning. |

BTW, Linden is far more than an athlete, he is a successful business man, he was president of the NHLPA for 8 years, professional hockey player for 19 years, he is great at PR, he is the president of a NHL club worth hundreds of millions. To me as a professional mariner and a risk assessment analyst, his resume screams successful.
People may not know his role and what his responsibilities are, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any.

Stecher as a hockey player “skill wise” sucks, I have no idea if he looks funny, talks funny, has funny hair, chews gum with his mouth open...etc.
He is a number 8-10 type defender. |

I think the majority of us in here are non biased enough to acknowledge both accomplishments and flaws of the entire organization. I think Benning has done more good than bad when it comes to this team. I think Green has done the same. I think weisbrod and judd have been excellent. I will save my opinion of linden because it will just be a vicious cycle. |

And I trust these people over the idiots who assume he is dumb because if how he speaks. since when is that a sign of intelligence? I know a couple people who have speech issues and are smarter than most posters here(one is a computer programmer that could make a better site than this in his sleep) |

I know you weren't pointing directly at me, and i appreciate that. No room for pettiness in making fun of personal appearance, speech, etc. Like i said, i havent seen it, but i understand your frustration as a mod if it was a regular occurance not long ago. Linden is a lot richer than me, and it didnt happen by mistake. In the end, benning is a GM, linden is a president of a million dollar franchise, and we are all armchair GMs canuck fans. |
