Why? They didn't give up anything for JT, tones of assets. I could see a package of Nylander, Kapanen and picks. Karlsson, Marner and Matthews all kick in next year and they are at the cap probably trying to shead salary. I think it's quite possible.

Well, it is in my best interest

The interweb says including Ryan is hurting the prospect of completing a trade (Ottawa has to realize there is a cost to getting rid of him?). Dallas has to pay the bulk for Karlsson, maybe they don’t feel they have roster players to give up to Ottawa. Perhaps Van could include better roster players? Maybe Van takes Spezza too, and gives up Sutter, Virtanen or Granlund? It’s a starting point.
