You say this like we want him to be bad. We don't. We're just not putting our heads in the sand about the kind of player he is.

Some of you guys just female dog and moan about every move the Pens make. Like the sky is falling because the Pens signed a guy for $3.3M to improve depth on D. Crying about signing Cullen for the veteran minimum. The Pens have improved their team so far this offseason and will again have a really good shot at winning their 3rd cup in 4 years.

I've actually never said anything bad about the Cullen move and the only other move I've been vocal about what the trade for Reaves last year, so before you start getting all over-dramatic, be sure you know what you're talking about. I was even optimistic about Hunwick when the Pens signed him.

The Pens now signed a dman who's widely recognized for not being good and hasn't been good for a long time. When you sign a bad player to a bad contract it remains bad until proven otherwise.

I'm not going to keep my head in the sand about a bad player taking up a spot in the lineup.

About the only plus to JJ's game is that he can play a physical game.

That’s about the one thing Pens lack.

Just wait. Its gonna be a good time watching these cucks tuck their tail and run when Johnson does well. Of course he'll make a few turnovers and then they'll be I told you so but....true fans are supposed to be supportive.

Maybe a little, but you can find a physical dman who's better at defense than JJ.

I don’t think the pens philosophy was find a guy who is stay at home. I think they will be focusing on him moving the puck and getting all the upside out of him they can. If he gets a 3 game suspension for breaking Tom Wilson’s ankle, oh well.

I dont feel like they updraged their offense at all and even regressed. You can argue that Kessel, Brassard, Sheary, Rust, Malkin were all hurt but we dont know how bad. But those guys were basically shut down in the playoffs. Some tweaks will need to be made.

I expect nothing less. I'm gonna save this for when you become a fan boy of Johnson. Then, I'll do that on your face.

It would seem we could have had DeHaan for roughly the same amount (little more) over 5 years than JJ.

Rowney, Kuhnhackl and Reaves are gone so it's hard to say they regressed. I'm not thrilled with Simon being back. I think we could use one more forward who can chip in a few goals while adding some grit along the boards. Most of those guys are gone now unfortunately. Pouliot or maybe give Duclair a look.

I don't care what anybody says, the team as a whole was gassed while Malkin and Brassard were noticeably injured. Sheary and his 2 goals in his last 34 playoff games will not be missed. Maybe he'll be missed in a few regular season games, but he shrinks even further when the physicality and obstruction picks up.

All of those guys will be fine, and if Sprong becomes the scorer he can then it is an upgrade. I still think Cullen can make plays and if Sprong happens to start with him the fourth line is automatically better. Cullen can do poop at the age of 42 that none of rowney Kuhn Reaves could ever do.

So De Haan took a 4 year contract for 4.5m. Johnson 5 years at 3.3. So people, given our cap situation you are still (some of you), saying we could have had De Haan? De Haan that has only played more than 65 games in a season twice in his career? De Haan that has just come off surgery on his shoulder?

Thank (frank) JR is driving the bus.

How do you work that out? De Haan has over a million more per year. Why would he reduce his overall total when he has more money for less years with the Canes?

There is no upside to Cullen at this point. The roster spot would be better off given to a Duclair or Jurco type player.
- Feds91Stammer

Thank you for this point Feds! I mean, IF they still go and get a player like that..you know Cullen would pass waivers. But, they need a LW right now.

All I know is stats fans are reaching pretty far when they try to poke fun at a three year deal worth 3 million dollars. Must be getting hard to feel self righteous in the hockey community these days.

Rhino...I'd disagree about the only upside. Again, freak athlete, good zone exit passes, few turnovers. He's actually a prototype of what you would like a pens D man to be like. EXCEPT!!!! (a big exception). He just doesn't think in the D zone.

I agree with this. I don’t think the pens coaches, or any coach cares what his cf% relative to a horses nut sack is. Plus he’s a Richard to play against. Says Crosby. I think he knows

The truth behind the Cullen signing is that Blueger or another center prospect and show enough to take the spot away from Cullen at some point the season and allow Cullen to be a good bench option for the 4th line. There is talk they may try Brassard and/or Sheahan at LW to see who may be a better option.

The truth behind it is that better hockey minds know a career athlete doesn’t just lose it all while still playing and training in one year. This is the same Cullen that propped up such awful terrible players as Kuhnhackl and Rowney. I’d play him at wing. He and Sheehan can be a big one two punch on big draws.
