I don't want to say Lou L going from Toronto to New York and then losing Tavares to the Maple Leafs, and then helping Toronto create cap space, is as amazing as Derek Jeter buying the Marlins and trading their MVP outfielder to the Yankees ... but it's close.

The best part about Stanton to the Yankees was that Jeter tried to trade him to the Red Sox, Giants and Cardinals first. Stanton said no cause of his full NTC and countered with the Dodgers or Yankees.

Rangers might have acquired Martin for two reasons: first to protect the kids, overrated and not a driving factor. Second, if Toronto traded an asset to move Martin, which didn’t happen. With neither occurring, no shock the Rangers passed.
