I think I am officially becoming anti-advanced metrics. Too many people take it as gospel or put it into some context that fits their particular stance.

We need to stop boiling an individual's skill to team shot attempts for/against. Yes, I know there are other metrics both that is the basis of most discussion. Too many cases just dont make any sense.

Anders Lee Corsi is 47% but scores 40 goals
Jack Johnson - terrible advanced metrics but one of the best in the league at breakout passes ...that makes great sense
Brooks Orpik - amazing fancy stats in the 16-17 season (oh did he magically become great for one season?)
The list goes on and on -- Tyler Kennedy is a god, Marcel Goc, Eric Fehr, Daniel Winnik, Conor Sheary, Cody Franson, Beau Bennett

F metrics.

I've said it before but RW was using stats to show Beau Bennett and TK were top 6 talent. They werent. He also tried to show Tom Wilson/Reeves shouldnt be in the NHL....They are.

I think the stats can have some value, but relying solely on them to prove a point is dumb.

Lee has had a positive Rel CF% the last 5 seasons.

Don't hate data because you can't comprehend it.

No thoughts on the mind-blowing moves of Stanley "I only got this job bc of my daddy" Bowman?? 38 yr old Chris Kunitz, 35yr old Sieve Cam Ward, and a guy not good enough to play in Philly Brandon "I broke McDavid's collarbone" Manning????
- EnzoD

I dont remember the story completely but didnt he forget to submit his list of RFA offers before the deadline and screwed up the Hawks cap royally?

Because I would prefer my team to sign hockey players that are good and not terrible ones, I should be a Wings fan? Weird. A bunch of retarded logic going around these boards these days.

Speaking of logic, I'm sure GMRW will hire you as his assistant when he takes over. Also the Wings fan thing was a joke. No reason this can't be fun

There is no point in following the Isles as a fan. They never could attract free agents of quality. So they can't but from without. Now, they can't even keep their own top guys due to all the isses. So they can't build from within. TBH, the best thing for that group is to move cities. Get out of the shadow of the Rags, change of name and venue could make them a place players want to play. 30+ years of a rebuild just got pushed back another 5 years. It's never going to end for that franchise.

I've never bothered to look it up, but how far away of a car drive is the arena from New York City?

You'd think more players would be have the Islanders on their list of places to play simply because their a drive away from one of the most appealing cities in the world. Could they not just live in NYC and commute to the arena or is the distance/traffic that brutal?

Well, it does count the spins so it is a stat of sorts. For real though I agree that you can't base a player off advanced stats alone and I don't need a bar graph to tell me why you disagree either. Its a completely different team and system so why can't his numbers improve? 2 cups in 3 years so I'm going to trust GMJR's judgement

How would fancy stats reflect on those good Devils teams of the 90's and 00's?

Reason I ask is those were good teams and they were terrible to watch. Their own fans didnt want to watch that crap hockey. The lower bowls would be vacant. the NHL is in the entertainment industry. Games need to be fun to watch and have a level of excitement.

You realize that Brandon Manning has been a regular, for better or worse (much more of the "worse"), for the past 2 seasons, right?

I mean, that's not a good thing, as both he and Gudas were brutal...but he was good enough to play, or rather deemed good enough to earn playing time, in Philadelphia.

Seems like you don't comprehend the stats. Rel CF% doesn't mean much when the rest of your team is garbage.

I honestly would love to have Green just not as my number one at his age for that price. Also any type of surgery on the spine scares me. I don't like Vanek because he's slow and only going to get slower with age. Can't take away the numbers he puts up but I think he hurts more than he helps a team. I'm sure some Wings fan is going to pull out a pie chart to show me I'm wrong but that's my opinion.
