Offer sheet Nylander for 7 years 8.11 million per! Yes I know pens would have to get back the 3rd from the sens but that wouldn’t be to hard with that cheap fook melnyk around. If accepted Marner will be wanting at least that much in the next year. And Mathews at the same time! And if they wait to sign either of them throw an offer sheet at either of those 2.

Fook the people that think offer sheets are bad to do. It’s business. Most of those same people say contenders won’t trade with contenders anyways so we don’t need em.

So when we should be starting to save draft picks as our stars are nearing the end, we give away four firsts for one player? Am I reading this right? Fook messed me up.

You might be reading it right but you don’t know what you are talking about.

8.11 mill is a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd. All late in the round Id imagine as well. From the blues giving away late round picks (I bet pens will be later picks then blues especially if we had Nylander) it doesn’t sound like people value those that highly anyways.

And aren’t we in this “win now mode”!? Or is that gone? Furthermore it would hurt the leafs if rejected or accepted and would DEFINITELY help us adding a 21 year old 65 point center/winger for 7 years I’d say.

Tatar got traded for the exact same package and I’m sure 95% of Gms would take Nylander long and short term over Tatar. Nylander is 22 compared to Tatar at 27 and apparently from scouting reports online Nylander is “better suited to play Center then winger long term” didn’t look it up but I think Nylander had 61 points in his first full year then 65ish last year. Not sure if Tatar has ever hit 60 points yet.

And Two new guys

All three are expected to enter the lineup at some point per today's article.

I'm not gonna bank on a dude who had 14 points in his last 91 NHL games making the opening night roster. He's a bum. I'd much rather see the Pens give ZAR the ice time, but that's just me.

On paper, that's a great group of forwards. However, there's definitely some question marks. If Cullen can still play, what a transformation of the 4th line!

My reason for possibly trading Brass is I absolutely hate the concept of letting assets walk for nothing.

- madmike71

I don't really care about stuff like that. I'm more focused on winning next year. Pens are in win now mode for every year until Sid/Geno retire. Load up the team as much as possible every year, rinse and repeat, I don't want to see them fall into the same trap the Red Wings did where they're good enough to make the playoffs but always get bounced in the first round. Load up and win.

I'm not high on Brassard not playing center. I think that's a waste of his bargain contract. Especially when that would put a guy like Rust on the fourth line. It's not sexy, but Rust and Hagelin should be our middle six left wings.
- Victoro311

I don't have a problem with Rust or Hagelin on the 4th line, but given the Cullen signing, I feel like that's gonna be the way it goes. Had we signed Kunitz instead (which to be honest, I'd rather have any day of the week) they could have rolled...

Jake-Sid-Horny
Hags-Geno-Kessel
ZAR-Brassard-Sprong
Kunitz-Sheahan-Rust

I would prefer that lineup over the other lineup. Hell, flip Kessel and Sprong. Either way, Kunitz>Cullen. Then you have Hags, Rust, Kunitz, Sheahan, ZAR, Brassard for the PK.

Those don't exist in the NHL lol they should do it, but they won't. I'd be extremely surprised if they did.

LA won the second they got rid of him and let others take up his minutes...

Carter was also an awesome pickup. Over 50+ on draws, skates well, twisted twister, good defensively

Ya not saying they do just saying they should and it’s a win win for the pens after that. Already rumours out there saying leafs want him for 7 years at 6 million and they are hoping marner will be the same. If both are 8.11 instead of 6 that extra 4.22 a year will be a lot for them to handle.

From my only source I have apparently it’s starting to be more and more talked about with teams locking up there young talent early and free agency being as weak as ever. Take it for what it is as he’s a pro scout and not a GM. Makes complete sense to me though if GMs did start to do it because of that.

Damn! Thanks for piling it on. You're dead right on the pricing; I didn't look them up and was relying on old info. They change every year.

What you're thinking is something I would do. My response from earlier was thinking the old way when our stars would have been DEFINITELY past prime and making it something the Canadians would do.

The NHL should review the rfa rules or completely (frank) it off. The league is getting younger so the young guys should be playing more not held down in other leagues because it suits their organisation. Player development is flying, some young guys are playing in leagues versus men & some can handle it straight away, Not sit in the cooker for 3 years or more.

He'd also have to accept it. Maybe he wants to stay in Toronto and they're negotiating. A player doesn't have to accept an offer sheet.

Anyone think it’s a bit of a waste of the organizations time and money having Sully and Gonchar watch hours of tape on a player? All they have to do is go to one of the thousands of links you guys post to see Johnson’s “advanced” statistics. Almost like these coaches don’t know that’s how you scout a player.

Analytics aside, Jack Johnson has been a really good player in the playoffs.

We have a number of guys now that elevate their game in the postseason: Kessel, Brassard, Guentzel, Rust, Dumoulin, Johnson.

p.s. I am cool with the Dad signing. It reeks of a move done only based on nostalgia but at $650k, he will literally cost the same as an AHL call-up. Best case, we manage his minutes, and he helps win a few draws and potentially provides some offense in the playoffs. Worst case...he's totally cooked as a player and he retires. Theres really no risk here other than maybe taking a spot from Simon now and then.
