Within a year or so they will get some defense to take contact hits to "win a cup". This was a huge pick-up and they are going to be top 5 favorites for the cup for the next 2-3 years. Cap hit may alter that afterward... but wont know til the time comes.

I do feel bad for the Islanders and their fans, I can't recall (although I am sure there are other instances) of a player stringing along a Franchise that a player has been part of for that long. JT left them in a tough spot by waiting so long. It really speaks quite loudly the character of the man. At least when O'Reilly stated that he lost his love for the game at times last year, he turned around and stated how he still wanted to be in Buffalo and help work to turn things around. Tavares didn't say anything and then turned around and left his former franchise and fans High and dry. That is the shame of this entire process. Don't try to tell me he owed them nothing, everybody connected to hockey knows loyalty is a strong factor within the game.

This is probably the only thing thats bugs me about this situation. When you've asked to not be traded, then leave anyhow... thats pretty low. Talk about leaving your former team in the worst position. I would hope they call him out on it.

I hope MB takes note of this. Character is bs, start getting talent and forget about the rest.

It’s amazing how mad the Islanders fan base is. He has no idea what he’s in for when he comes back here. He literally destroyed the Islander franchise. Not only did he tell Garth not to deal him, but then lead Islander management along through this whole process this week instead of allowing them to move on. Islanders had all the freedom to trade JT. They chose not too even though JT wouldn't sign an extension. Just bad asset management.
