I don’t hate the moves today. We did not do anything really stupid. Which is a win. The term on Johnson is tough but if we succeed in a reclamation project the signing has upside. Basically we replaced hunwick with hunwick at a million more but with a hope of true upside. I wouldn’t have signed him but Johnson talent is interesting for a team that has succeeded on the garbage bin of defenseman. Cap is going up. Worse case if we buy him out after 2 years we have a cap charge of like a million a year for a while.

The jack Johnson signing is really stupid IMO.

Sheahan and kessel played well together before brassard arrived...

I'd go with the backbone of...

TBD - sid- guentzel
TBD - Geno - Sprong
TBD - Sheahan - Kessel
TBD - Cullen/Bleuger - TBD

The TBD will be Brassard, Horny, Hags, Simon, ZAR, and Rust.... based on chemistry

Kessel did not play well with Sheahan.

How much veteran leadership do you need? Crosby, Malkin, Letang have all been in the league 10+ yrs each.....I just dont buy that argument at this point.

Maybe to help with Blueger?

Totally agree. That’s typical GM thinking right there.

If it’s at vet minimum and he’s ok going to minors at times then there’s no downside.

I’m already doing buyout numbers. So I don’t love the deal, but the downside isn’t terrible. And a buyout after three years is likely stretching into rebuilding years.

1 million in bad cap when the caps at 90-100 is manageable.

It’s just a question of whether he’s functional at all.
