2nd stints worked out pretty well for Bernie Parent and Mark Recchi, and to a lesser extent, Brian Boucher. - BiggE
I've never understood that logic -- you can't expect a guy to be exactly what he was when they left. Sometimes, you bring them back to be something different
JVR is unique because he literally is a better player than he was when he was traded. Certainly, things could go badly. That's always a possibility. But there's no reason to believe that all of a sudden, he isn't going to score just because Mike Knuble was at the end when he came back a few years ago
Each case is different

They're obviously all in on Taveras. If they don't get him, they've weakened their team unless they do something else. - MJL

If we hadn't just got JVR I'd say maybe. But you trade for him now and you're putting him or JVR in the bottom 6.
If I'm making any big move right though the piece going out is probably Simmonds, not Jake. - hereticpride
Moving Simmer hurts the leadership core. Jake doesn't. I still move Jake. |

If the Flyers were deciding between JVR and Simmonds, they probably made the right decision. Probably best to move on from Simmonds at this point if they want to maximize his value. They could just play things out and let him walk next offseason I guess. It's not like they're dying for more prospects.
As far as 3C goes, I'd much rather see the team give the younger players a look before committing to someone like Filppula who is terrible anyway. The top 6 projects to be really good now and the young wingers like NAK and Lindblom could really help a young 3C work into the role. If they end up needing to upgrade, they can always grab someone at the deadline. - PhillySportsGuy
If you want to look at it that way I agree. Add JVR and the assets you can get for Simmonds can improve the team. However if it's just a player to player comparison between Simmonds and JVR, Simmonds all the way.

Guess Stastny is headed to Vegas - funmaster18
Done deal? I probably figured they wouldn’t sign both Stastny and JVR. But I don’t think Hextall is done. |

Roussel is a 4th line player at ES. I don't want to be paying 4th liners 3.25 million, and, as you said, especially not for 4 years. - BiggE
i think rousell is more than a 4th line player. money is line as he made i think 2.5 last year. def had a down year.

no issue with that at all. jake just has a long term deal is all.
Do you give wayne the JVR deal?
IMO the flyers are prepared to do just that or they know wayne wants more. - rinaldo
Right now I'm probably moving Wayne. I'm not interested in extending him more than 4 years with a 5 million dollar cap hit and I don't blame him in the slightest for turning that down. |

I don’t wanna do this but this would be fun:
Jake to Buffalo in a deal for ROR
Simmonds + 1st for Panarin.

I saw it as offer with a one year max deal followed up by an agreement of an 8 year deal in January. Which would in effect turn a max 7 year deal from Toronto into a 9 year deal.

Kind of a ridiculous statement. Jake is probably just as much a leader in that locker room for all we know.
And making roster decisions based on something like leadership is risky imo. |

this is where Ronald will separate himself. Will be attached and loyal oi wayne or will he put the team first so to speak?
after free agency slows down wyane may have some real good value to some team; especially the ones that strike out. If they move him i prefer they do it before the season. |

You hear about Simmonds presence, you don't about Jake.
I know it's risky but if I can get Panarin for Jake and pieces I'm thinking about it. |

Unless, he suffers a career ending injury this upcoming season. Then it's just one year at 15.9 million. If I'm JT's agent, I'm advising him against signing a deal like that. Especially when there is likely an offer on the table from San Jose for 7 years and at least 75 million guaranteed or from the Isles at 8 years and at least 85 million guaranteed.
