Weber on the Leafs makes too much sense. just not sure they can afford him.

Especially not for 2019-20, where they have Matthews, Marner and Kapanen to sign.

For what it's worth, considering Tavares didn't want to come play here.

I think Bergevin did pretty good so far this offseason. By not signing any stupid contract and getting some decent addition for cheap.... he did good.

The Pacioretty trade will obviously have a major impact on wheter or not I maintain this evaluation.

I'd rather have Weber not on the Leafs than getting Kapanen and picks for Weber.

They won't keep all of their guys if they want to improve their defense.

If they could get Conor Timmins, Tyson Jost and a 1st from Colorado it would be awesome.

Jost is not going anywhere.

Sakic really seems to like the kid.

He just eats up ice time that should be put in the developpement of a younger player. And you know Julien loves him and by November he's on the first wave of the powerplay
- Fredobbface

ok like who? sorry fred but really how much more of Jacob de la Rose or Michael McCarron do you really need to see? and even if you had any worthwhile young centers on the roster, they could do worse than learning how to play the position in the NHL from Plekanec.

How much more of Plekanec do you really want to see? As bad as they are at least they are not retiring and the end of this season. Only good thing that could happen is he has a semi-good season and they milk a third round pick at the deadline for him.

i still think he has some value when guys like Poehling/Kotkaniemi come around, if he sticks around that long. but my point was more that there's no young player for him to take ice away from this year.

Plekanec, despite having a bad season, just fetched the Habs a 2nd rounder and 2 young players that might become bottom tier NHL players.

If bringing back implies we might get another second or a third rounder, considering NO ONE is waiting to take that spot, I think it's a pretty good deal.

Plekanec is a good pro, he can teach the young guys some stuff too. Having good vets around is not a bad thing.

trade for Bobby Ryan, get a pick and or a prospect doing so.
do the same thing with Lucic.

trade Patch, Weber and Price if possible, again for picks and prospects.
sit back, relaxe, enjoy the tank over the next few years.

THAT's a plan!

You need a few vets even if you are rebuilding. Plekanec was a smart move. Our prospects are not ready and won't be for a while and mtl young players at the position are not good enough to do the job. And yeah, maybe you move him once again at the deadline and get another pick.

Too many years remaining for these guys. Look at guys with one year remaining. If you buy that out (one year reamining), you still have to pay for 2 years.

I think Tampa could have a contract that we could take. Same goes with others teams.

I’m sure Poehling is anxious to learn how to dump and change

no need to buy them out. Ryan has 4 years left, Habs won't be ready to compete before that. and they'll have to reach the floor if they do trade Price and Weber.
same with Lucic

Would need to monitor the cap to see how much sense it makes. As long as you don't play a guy like Lucic over a guy like Lehkonen or Domi. That would be dumb as (frank).

Jesperi, when you get a 2 on 1 it’s really important to get a got shot in the goalie’s chest

I'm counting on a panicked GM at the deadline going into the playoffs without a goalie

St-Louis, Philadeplphie and even Colorado quickly come to mind.
