You think Weber gets one of the return every star player getting moved seems to go for? The roster player, good prospect and 1st round pick package?

I don't see why not. He has a solid reputation, and the length of his contract isn't terrible when it's considered it can be used to hold Nashville by the balls down the road. I dont mind at all of Montreal eats salary either, and what's more is that is actual salary is much lower than cap which may be enticing to a team like Florida or Columbus.

Theres no trade clause in his contact either, which is an obvious plus...

I'd settle for a young top 3 D prospect and a 1st. Or something equivalent.

But I bet at trade deadline, some teams will wanna load up, and that might be the best time to move him. Also take on a few short-term contracts for assets given (like the Mason trade), while thye are at it.

Right now, most teams have cap flex (relatively speaking), unlike at trade deadline.

Really? I'd see it more as an off season move than a TDL deal... I think Philly would be interested, NJ, VGK and any team that misses out on Karlsson

People do stupid things at trade deadline, especially if they believe they got the team to go far or they are just hanging on to a playoff spot.

I think that is the best time to trade if yo want picks and prospects, worse time to trade if you want to bolster your team.

Marc Bergevin said he was asked for three first-round picks for O’Reilly. Thought he was joking. Pretty sure he wasn’t.

Crazy.

Not many players with that much term get moved at the deadline though

They can if you take back a contract that has 1-2 years left on it... which is what the Habs should do with their cap space come trade deadline. The big challenge is MB has not won a "big trade" yet, and him making more significant trades scares the poop outta me.

I give him kudos on the Mason/ Armia trade. But that is about it.

Habs won the Plekanec sweeps, while the Leafs had to go with plan B and sign some random dude to an over-priced 7-year contract.

Good day to be a Habs fan.

His track record in bigger trades is beyond horrible, no doubt... And I was thinking something along those lines as well, if the return is the standard 3 pieces, I'd make sure the roster player is someone who could be flipped for more picks/prospects

in theory i have no problem with him doing nothing to improve this team because the only way forward for them now is to be terrible. but in keeping this core of Price/Weber/Pacioretty together... if all 3 are healthy and have bounce back seasons this could very well end up being a mediocre team that gets dragged into a wild card race.

i did too but then i looked at his numbers and he's pretty much a mid-40 point guy now who maybe has one more big year in him at some point.

They have to deal Pacioretty. I think you need a few vets for a rebuild, but that is one that we have to get something for. Most likely Byron at the deadline as well.
