Think if I'm Lou, and I have a lot of good will on my side with the fan base right now, I'd tell him to go F himself, and not give him 8 unless I am getting an offer that's just too good to pass up.

Not a terrible strategy, I heard one of the guys on Sirius NHL channel, Boomer I think, mention that Toronto could sign him to a one year 15 mil deal, then in January he could sign an 8 year. Would actually give him more on his 8 year deal, and the 15 mil deal now would give him an extra few mil.

If I'm one of the teams going after him, and wanted him badly enough, its a good strategy.

Not sure if a handshake on this is a violation of the CBA though, but if it Toronto, I'm sure Bettman gives them a pass.

Contract is only a 1 year deal then. Get a career ending injury and you don’t get the other 8. Not sure I take that chance.

Isles aren't letting him go - they're one of the teams in the mix for him because they want him to stay but he's a UFA so he can talk to anyone. They don't know their money situation until Tavares is done.

Can’t say I disagree one bit with Q here. The real story behind this though is:

Conflict between SB and Q. Again. And yes, counting on McD to manage this makes it even worse.

Coach tells you what he needs, GM finds guys Daddy says they need, Q goes ballistic working with what they give him, and McD is going on three years allowing this conflict to continue.

Can you imagine what a cluster it must be to do a trade with Chicago if they behave like the Three Stooges all the time before they make decisions.....?

Going to be another terrible year. So, at least dont screw it up this year by being less terrible at the end and miss a higher draft slot.

Precisely my point, as the proof is in the lack of results since 2015. Its been three consecutive years of decline to the bottom of the division from winning a Cup.

I feel like everyone continually overlooks the fact that on Bowman's side, he has to find willing FAs and willing trade partners. It's not as easy as it seems to be assumed here to go out and just take what you want from whichever team you want, particularly up until this year when the money really wasn't there. Yeah, we have examples of trades going the other way we don't like, but are there actual examples of players you (the collective you) think he should have been able to get, no question, and couldn't? Would we know?
