So few career ending injuries theses days. And he's already set for life. - Tumbleweed
That is total BS . I would need an adding machine to count the number of players that have gone to Toronto and their careers immediately go in the dumpster. |

Might tarnish Bettmans H.O.F induction if it happens There , i can draw something positive out of TO signing JT |

Never know, league might disallow an extension and make him an ufa again without Toronto getting the extra year add- on and perhaps losing their pick and some fines. I know Toronto has a lot of clout but theres going to be a lot of p-offed owners ,not just the ones bidding on JT. I can see Montreal and Boston lighting a fire under Bettman as well - Tigersmyle
But how can the league prove that the Leafs offered that deal this summer? |

Honestly, you are a model of rationality these days. Lefty's Big Brothers of Canada sponsorship went a long way.

I thought i saw somewhere else( maybe on this site ?) that the delay on his signing today is JT looking into insurance, as in to cover such an injury as Vantel says. Its why i think theres a lot more than smoke to the Toronto situation. |

I agree it would be very hard, but alot depends on how many are in the know, if its just player, agent, and a couple of the leafs management its a tight knit group. But keep adding people and one by one leaks happen, exponentially so.

I do find it strange that Vancouver is getting into a bidding war over 4th line talent.
Remember when Toronto broke the bank on Matt Martin, and now they can't get rid of him unless they pay someone to take him. - classic321
Who are the Canucks's in a bidding war with? Where was this reported?

Somewhat sketchy rumor site has these as offers for JT
RumorBreak

Just want to reiterate this again. SJS's offer to Tavares is for 7-years at around $13M per, TOR's offer to Tavares is for 1-year at $15.9M with an extension on Jan 1st, 2019 for 8-years at $10.5-$11M AAV., NYI offer is for 8-years at $11-11.5M per. Interesting offers.
If Toronto pulls this off i wonder there will be hell to pay with the league. Last time Toronto tried this kind of stuff with the Sedins they got caught.....maybe lose some draft picks ? - Tigersmyle
So RumorBreak is the only person that knows all the offers? |

You do know that the only team that is eligible too sign him right now, is the Islanders, any other team is July 1st. |

Yep, but i doubt they would be able to keep the signing quiet "unofficially" .Word would get out to the unsuccessful teams and they would that would open the tap

Well a few guys went a bit nuts about draft picks being taken away from the Leafs, agents telling their players not to trust the Leafs, investigations, being a UFA again, people being pissed off etc. All from a tweet from RumorBreak.
