Doesn't sound like they're in on any dmen though. I like the idea of letting the overhyped bottom 6 players get paid by other GM's and instead focusing on the 2nd wave of UFA's for cheap to potentially use as sign and flips.

3M+ for Roussel, 2.5M+ for Beagle....

I don't know, personally I'd rather just sign 1 legit player instead like a De Haan or something and go penny pinching for depth with guys like Schaller/Calvert/Peca/Etc.

You end up spending close to the same too.

I’m ok with De Haan if you tell me what happens to D we already have?

The Vancouver Canucks are closing in on an agreement with one of their top free agent targets. After Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Canucks were talking to two-way winger Antoine Roussel, colleague Rick Dhaliwal did some digging and discovered that the two sides were close on a long-term deal. Dhaliwal expects Roussel to sign a four-year deal worth more than $3MM per year with Vancouver. The former Dallas Stars brings grit and energy to the Canucks and has previously teased 30+ point potential. If the 28-year-old Frenchman can reach those levels of production while maintaining his notorious physical game, this could be a great signing by GM Jim Benning. However, it is well above what many would have expected Roussel to sign in both term and salary and could just as well be a disaster for Vancouver. Roussel is ranked 38th on PHR’s Top 50 Free Agents list with an estimated contract of two years and just over $2MM AAV.

De Haan can play RHD decently according to Isles fans so take your pick.

1 of Tanev, MDZ or Hutton can go for a pick

I think future looks like:

Joulevi - XXXXX
Hughes - Woo
Tryamkin - Stecher

Then hopefully between Chatfield, Brisbois, Sautner, Utonen, Rathbone and McEneny you get a player or 2 who can be a good bottom pairing or 7th guy.

If there is anyway that we could do Tanev for Dobson just get it done. Toss in a 2nd if you need to as he would give us that big minute top pairing guy we need.

- mauryballstein

If NYI didn’t offer the 12oa (Dobson) for Tanev already why would they now when the chance they got him was fortunate? Lastly adding the 2nd is even sillier.

Yeah, I doubt they move Dobson. Especially if Tavares bolts.

Wow this is F'n crazy

Beagles agent is gem. He is driving up the price of a 33 year old 4th line center into crazy term and AAV.

Like why are GM's competing over such a player.

- classic321

We won’t know til the dust settles.
Or who these GM’s are in the bidding war.

I am not sure you would get a proper return for Tanev right now.

He might be more useful on Canucks this year

This is the most likely scenario 👍👍

MDZ no clue & fine by me.
Hutton is hard to give away IMO

Worst case you trade Hutton for scraps and lose his 2.8M cap hit. He’s basically a pending UFA since the Canucks would be foolish to give him a 3M qualifying offer next summer.

I like Roussel but the term and cost is high

Beagle at 3.5 x 3 is okay if you are trading Sutter .

If it goes higher no.

Rieder yes. That would be much better than Spezza

I think JB has tried already & said no to any offer if there was one & see if Hutton can rebound. If not you are probably right 👍

What's the good word today? Jim sign Tavares yet?
- LeftCoaster

I'm not sure that's allowed in June.

As per Jan Levines rangers blog referencing the Doughty extension
"Kings have $3.1 mil in cap room this year with Doughty at 7 mil. Next year, Nate Thompson & Peter Budaj are the only UFA. I am unsure how they create room to fill their roster even with minimum salaries, unless they find a taker for Trevor Lewis' $2 mil salary of Kyle Clifford's $1.65 mil. New York should try and get into discussions on grabbing one of their blue liners to go with Lewis." This could be a source of a cap dump pick for the nucks ?

Also

De Haan 4.5M over 4 or 5 years

Tanev for a 1st
MDZ for a 2nd or 3rd

Jim is a bigger genius

- Nucker101

I like it. Pretty sure only one of those guys has value though haha

LA is prime for a cap dump. Canucks have got to be smart about it though, some of the term on those deals are stupid.

I know we’re not a UFA destination, but this is insane. Makes Matt Martin and Dorset contracts look like a bargain. I like Roussel but 3 mil is a lot for his skills.

Ryan Callahan, Braydon Coburn and Cal Foote for Chris Tanev

TBay calls up JT and gives him 7 x 12 with no state tax or reduced whatever it is and a life on the beach.

I thinl JT is gonna go to TO though. 7 x 12
