Wrong. He pays the majority of his taxes where he lives which would be the city he plays in. If he plays in Toronto, he's paying Canadian taxes. If he plays in Tampa Bay, he's paying American taxes. It depends on his residency. - Unholy_Goalie
You are wrong, he holds a residency in Toronto so he pays Canadian taxes.
Also he plays games in Canada, which he also pays taxes on. |

St. Petersburg SKA is a late addition scheduled to meet with Tavares today. Tavares is really interested to hear their zero income tax offer.

Wrong, he'd be an idiot to be a resident in Toronto while playing 41 games in Long Island.
He'd pay those taxes regardless of where he plays but for the 41 home games he plays, his taxes and his residency would be Long Island based. |

I do too. It would be the best thing since drafting Matthews. But the odds don't look good. - Unholy_Goalie
the money he'd lose playing here is too much and this is a guy who has been severly underpaid for years.
i really hope his family/fiance are wanting to be in toronto. its our only hope. |

Wrong. Again. Shockingly.
The Leafs are 1 of 6 teams he's talking to. By literal (frank)ing definition, the odds are good. Tied with 5 other teams and ahead of 25, who are at 0%.
Doesn't mean he'll sign here, he probably won't, but the odds are still good. |

Incorrect.

Players only have one chance to make this kind of money. He won't be able to make it when he's 40 or 50.
The Leafs would have to give him McDavid money. Or more. Is it worth it at that point? I'm not sure.
His friends and family can still be accounted for in the offseason, which is what most players do anyway. I don't see him having to be "home" all year round. |

Players earn 41 cheques in their teams province or state and 41 cheques in the away province or state. They pay tax where the money is earned. |

Being a citizen and being a resident are different. If he's in Long Island or Tampa Bay or wherever else for more than 6 months (hint: he would be to play a whole NHL season), he pays taxes where he resides. That's what residency means. Playing for the Islanders, he's a US resident and he's not paying Canadian taxes. |
