Kind of makes you wonder if the NHL should not be adopting a cap system with tax differences built in. If Tampa can offer lower cap hit contracts that still pay more it doesn't seem like a level playing field. - Aetherial
That would make sense for sure.
assuming players are factoring that in to the decisions. and i am sure it comes into play |

It usually benefits non-traditional hockey markets so I doubt Bettman does anything about it because it creates "parity". - Unholy_Goalie
There is definitely no need to boost the markets in places like Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver etc. |

Perfect....welcome to MTL Jack Hughes - Symba007
Nope- Colorado is offering any team that (frank)s Dorion this year with a trade that weakens the Sens... a draft pick and prospects and free beer for a year. Just like Pollock did to the Seals way back when.

Nope. That's guaranteed money. Every Canadian team could be a lottery team and they'd still turn a profit.
Except Ottawa. |

I dont get this?
Lebrun and Matheson have been writing about the NHL for a long time.
even if you take a quick look at Wards stats.. he hasnt had a season above NHL avg sv% since 2011 ...like holy F.
He seems like one of the worst options. have they even looked at where the Canes have ranked in goale sv% the past decade?
is it just Ward is a gud pro and therefor a good option in these guys minds? - senstroll
I started ignoring lebrun after he wrote a fluff piece pumping chia's tires. |

Domi will score 5 empty net goals this year to reach double digits. And he will have a 12.3% winning percentage on face offs. - winsix
That's insinuating that Montreal will win 5 games this season. |

:lol
I'm out here proposing a trade centred around Nylander for Karlsson.
This guy wants Jake Gardiners right handed twin. Could you imagine a Gardiner-Faulk pairing?
The awkward moment a Senator fan overvalues a Leaf player, meanwhile, a Leafs fan completely destroys a Leafs players value.
Waddell would literally be carried around Raleigh like C3P0 in Star Wars Return of the Jedi.

8 million dollars is a lot more.
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/tavares-calculator
N.Y. Islanders Toronto San Jose Tampa Bay Dallas Boston
8 years 7 years 7 years 7 years 7 years 7 years
Contract Value $96,000,000 $84,000,000 $84,000,000 $84,000,000 $84,000,000 $84,000,000
Salary Cap Hit $12,000,000 $12,000,000 $12,000,000 $12,000,000 $12,000,000 $12,000,000
Total Taxes Paid $48,470,400 $44,654,400 $42,856,800 $30,794,400 $30,794,400 $35,078,400
Net Salary $47,529,600 $39,345,600 $41,143,200 $53,205,600 $53,205,600 $48,921,600
Tampa Bay could offer him 70 million (44 million net) and he'd still make more than if the Leafs offered him 84 million (39 million net). Even though Tampa Bay has to move salary, their cap hit would be lower than the Leafs. Would the Leafs go into McDavid territory (14 AAV, 98 million, 46 million net)? Is it worth it? - Unholy_Goalie
Shut up, you a basing this on his total salary he won't be making that, also no matter where he plays he will still have Canadian taxes.
He won't pay the taxes on his agents salary plus he will have many more source deductions. Get of your stupid tax thing. |

Won't have space to sign him next year. The point is if they trade for Myers/Mason, it would be cheap because of the salary dump attached and then there is 9.6mil coming off the books next year to give to MaMar - Schennski
They will have enough. Cap will go up another $5 mil, Gardiner will be gone, Hainsey will be gone, biggest issue will be preparing to make sure Seattle does not get a plum from our lineup.

Wrong. He pays the majority of his taxes where he lives which would be the city he plays in. If he plays in Toronto, he's paying Canadian taxes. If he plays in Tampa Bay, he's paying American taxes. It depends on his residency. |

Which would still almost always be lower in the US, specifically the teams in states with no state income tax. |
