Maple Leafs have made some staff changes. Jacques Lemaire, Jacques Caron, Nikolai Ladygin, Evgeny Namestnikov and Tommy Albelin have all left the organization.
How are we going to replace these guys? - PatC80

As soon as I figure out who these guys are and what they do, I'll tell you why their departure sets us back 5 years.
Did Mirtle say why they are leaving?
Was it the tax burden? |

So why did they draft all these overage Russians only to fire all the Russian scouts? - AdamFrench
I guess drafting Korshkov, was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. |

On the Left side, we have Marleau and Hyman.. Johnsson will be our 3rd line LW. Why trade him?
Marner, Nylander, Brown, Kapanen are all RW. - PatC80
Marleau plays on Kadri line (with Kapanen/Brown).
Hyman on Matthews line (with Nylander/Marner).
so the other line: Nylander / Tavares / other C with Marner / Nylander and a LW.
Johnsson wouldn't be a great fit for a hypothetical Tavares-Marner line for example.
Nor would he belong on a Nylander - Brown line as LW.
Would prefer Leafs to try and get Zucker or Stone for 2nd line. (and potentially play a RW on LW).

Reports were, because Nashville and Vegas are closer to winning the Cup.. Felt the need to jump ship and head to perennial winners. |

Always subject to change between now and Sunday, but at this hour on the goalie carousel, it would appear Carter Hutton is the leading option in Buffalo, Jonathan Bernier likely headed to Detroit and as we said before, Cam Ward likely to Chicago... |

Ozhiganov wasn't the saviour we needed.
Haven't produced a quality Russian player since Kulemin (I won't count Zaitsev since he immediately walked onto the Leafs and didn't "develop.")

I will wait for UG to explain how this negatively affects John Tavares signing with the Leafs before I make up my mind. |

This will be a tough one to swallow because Jacques Lemaire was over 70.
At this rate, the only septuagenarian that will remain in the Leafs organization after next season will be Larry Tanenbaum.
The whole team will be run by tiny little 30 and 40 year old children. The madness! |

Komarov leaving potentially means Martin staying as 13th FW.
Wouldn't count too much on Johnsson being a superb fit on 4th line, and honestly wouldn't be great for Leafs to have him on 2nd/3rd line.
Nylander - Hyman - Marner - Marleau - Kapanen and Brown are all in front of Johnsson in the depth chart. And that is if Leafs are not adding another top 6 winger to replace JVR.
So either Nylander moves to #2C.
Or one of these wingers gets traded.
If not, Johnsson will have difficulties getting sufficient playing minutes.
Probably best to trade him. - MaximusAurelius
there's room for him...no need to trade. |

From the original release:
Jacques Lemaire will be reunited with Lou Lamoriello after being hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday as a special assignment coach.
Lemaire, 69, spent parts of seven seasons as coach of the New Jersey Devils under president and general manager Lamoriello, who became GM of the Maple Leafs on July 23.
"I have been working with Lou for so many years and we became real good friends," Lemaire told the Maple Leafs website. "I love the work. Also, you've got [Maple Leafs coach] Mike [Babcock], I worked at the Olympics with him. I feel that he's the best coach around and it'll be a thrill to be able to assist him.
"That's what made me really excited, because Mike called me and Lou called me that same day and I feel that through the two calls, I said I think I can be working with them and bring something to the table."
Lemaire coached 1,262 regular-season games for the Devils, Montreal Canadiens and Minnesota Wild, and he led the Devils to their first Stanley Cup in 1995. Lemaire is an 11-time Stanley Cup champion, having won eight times with the Canadiens as a player and twice as assistant general manager.
"What I do is I look at the team, I bring suggestions on players, I bring suggestions on everything I see," Lemaire said. "It's like you're involved with the team the whole time and sometimes you're missing certain things. Looking from the outside, not having that constant pressure, I think I can help quite a bit."

So Lou hired a drinking buddy to just fart around while on the payroll.
As far as I know, Lemaire wasn't even living in Toronto (neither was Lou, for the record). |
