But they have been.
- Unholy_Goalie

People have been disagreeing with you for the reason I stated earlier. You acting all high and mighty and assuring everyone the Leafs have the same chances as Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber.

A couple people on here now are saying he'll be a Leaf cause someone else asked anyone that wanted to state it on record so they'd have bragging rights if it happens.
Basically, no one will remember if he doesn't sign with us, but if he does, they can brag to us and we'll happily congratulate them or suggest they (frank) HOHOs hat or both.

NYI offer him little chance to win in the next three years, and he pays lots/medium amount of tax in the state of New York.

Toronto has a decent chance to win, moreso than the NYI, but he pays slightly more tax although he gets a 20% up-lift on his salary.

San Jose has high taxes as it's in the state of California but they have a really good team, although their main guys are hitting the ends of their careers. Still a good window to win plus a great lifestyle.

Dallas has a good team, 42 wins 92 points in a down year, great taxation and great lifestyle.

(frank) Boston

Islanders offer more money and Lou in control.

San Jose offers nice weather, privacy, went to the Cup Finals recently.

Boston offers a veteran squad, contender.

Dallas offers more money, privacy, better team than the Islanders but not really a contender.

Tampa Bay offers nice weather, privacy, more money and the best team.

Leafs offer "home town" sentimentality and possibly offering a McDavid contract just to keep him away from their two biggest rivals.

Islanders can offer more term and thus more money yes, but we don't know if this will be a deciding factor or not. No one knows but John Tavares, we'll see how it plays out.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he signed in Dallas. Besided the Islanders they probably have the weakest team but once they add secondary scoring to their top heavy guys they could be really good.

Their defense and goaltending is pretty poop. Bishop, if healthy, might be able to cover it up but giving up too many goals is a nightmare I really doubt Tavares wants to deal with. Imagine all the games he had to play and score 3 or 4 points and still lose because the defense and the goaltending behind him were atrocious. If he's looking at the Leafs or Dallas, the lack of support behind him could be a huge determinant.

See, in here is part of why people get annoyed by you in this argument.

You list these teams and mention San Jose went to the finals recently and that Dallas is "better team than the Islanders but not really a contender", yet don't mention that Toronto finished ahead of both teams in the standings this year, while suggesting the only things going for them are the "home town" thing and huge wads of money.

We also had more regulation wins too so don't give me that crap about the shootout.

You seem to purposefully denigrate anything the Leafs have going for them, which is also why people always accuse you of not actually being a fan.

Winning is more likely on other teams. Money is tied to taxes and again, the Leafs are on the short end of that stick. Living conditions could go many ways but the pressure in Toronto is sky high plus Canadian winters.
- Unholy_Goalie

Winning is more likely on other teams. --> Wrong; Leafs are top5 favorites for SC next 5-7 years, especially with Tavares on the team.

Money is tied to taxes and again, the Leafs are on the short end of that stick. --> Wrong; how many times do people have to explain to you that there are 1000s of different rules to taxing that will influence the 'regular rates' you find on TSN? In addition.. loads of endorsement opportunities in Toronto for Tavares. If it's purely abou the money, Toronto is #1 by far.

Living conditions could go many ways but the pressure in Toronto is sky high plus Canadian winters. --> Who said Tavares doesn't like pressure and Canadian winters??

N.B.: One thing most of you guys are not mentioning, but what is crucial for players to decide, is playing time. Basically Tavares wants to know that apart from top 5v5 minutes, he'll be given good PP time - and probably an idea on who could potentially be his linemates. Personally I see this as the most tricky part, since Toronto obviously has Matthews as well with the ask for top 5v5 minutes.

Oui.

Clearly you don't understand people UG, or you wouldn't be arguing non stop on here and be the most disliked person.

So now you think you understand people well enough to tell me why people are arguing with you?

Meh, Max doesn't count. Everyone knows he's crazy.
I think he wants Hyman as captain.

Besides, Max didn't actually say in that post you referenced towards that he thought the Leafs were most likely going to sign Tavares.

He was merely refuting some of those high and mighty arguments of yours that are frankly, insulting to the team you profess to support.

Like suggesting they're nowhere near a contender already despite finishing sixth in the League last year.

As I was saying before, it's your near complete certainty the Leafs have no chance and the way you constantly disparage your team in order to minimize the chance they do have that makes people argue.

If you weren't constantly insulting the Leafs in order to prove to everyone how hopeless it is that Tavares will sign with the Leafs, and just said you thought they had very low odds of it happening, barely anyone would be disagreeing with you.

Veteran squad? Lou in control? Privacy? You have no idea that Tavares wants this. Stop pretending like you do.

There we plenty more pros and cons to each team.

Seriously you are a sad kid, I hope you mature a little bit as you get older

He had no clue about taxation except you pay less in the USA. Everyone knows that, it's a little more indepth than that though.

Answer key: Tavares is going to sign here because he can make just as much money as anywhere else, and it gives him the best, longest window of opportunity to win a Cup.

As much as I would love it, I honestly don't think he signs here.
Just my gut feeling.

If he doesn't sign here, he can watch the Leafs win Cups as a fan, so really it's a win-win for everybody.
