I was also one of those ppl that believed we were gonna win the mcdavid sweepstakes. I was off by a year.

I thought we had a good chance at stamkos as well, but looking at the leafs now and where they were when meeting with stamkos, I think Tavares is an actual possibility.

While disapointed we didnt land 97 because of having a good ol local boy superstar, (my brother lives arround the cornner of his parents house in Newmarket) I liked how it worked out for the Leafs in getting Marner and then Mathews. Liked how we drafted Willie and grew him, heck even Kadri while I'll admit I was one of those "trade that bum people", but over the last two years of Kadri he has been a beast, and again drafted and developed.

Probably the only valid thing UG has said about JT is if we had to pay McDavid money to land him, is it really worth it considering we are going to have to pony up for Mathews (10mil min I would expect) Mitchy will probably get anywhere from 6-8 Mil, and the wild card in Nylander, which I would say keep him. The one thing I can figure out with Mathews is, does he want to be the guy (captaincy) in this nut house city, and if JT by miracle did end up here, would you NOT give him the captaincy as we dont have one now?

$25m cap space is misleading.

JT might be exploring options but IMO its NYI 1st then onto SJ next. They are built for now & an easier division to come out of. The Leafs need a minute munching shutdown D man more than JT. Who or when that is tough to say but its gotta be a priority. That all said things are looking bright while the process plays out. With the Habs/Sens being so inept & years away from being a threat along with FLA being closer its good times ahead for all of you fans GL

Nah I dont see JT in the West. I know for a fact he comes here often, which is why I think he will stay with the Islanders..and possibly Tampa due to the shortness of the flight. Actually true story here, buddy of mine at work was at shops at Don Mills 2 weeks back. He noticed someone, a person that looked really familiar, kind of like Tavares. Well it was infact Tavares, so he approached him and asked quietly (much to JT's appreciation he said) if he was him, and he smiled and said yes. Buddy asked if his son could get a picture with him and JT agreed. Whats funny is my buddy says "Ok instead of cheese, say go leafs go". JT got serious at first but laughed and said fine. Wouldnt have believed him then he showed me the pic and he also had it posted to Facebook. ..also being portutguese I know some pork chops that know some of his extended family. If not IN Toronto, he will stay close enough to it..of course I dont trust a word half of those guys say about him coming/going etc, but I do know he is close to his family.
