what none of these doinks figure into these equations... which is particularly germane in the US... what if a guy plays for the Rangers,Islanders and lives in Connecticut? (which many do)...

what if a guy plays for Toronto but lives in upper New York?

we're not tax accountants, neither is John Tavares or Steve Stamkos.

they will make what is largely an emotional or gut feel decision.

an older guy.. who has 1 more 2-3 year contract will worry about the tax differential, not a guy on verge of making 50+Millon dollars

good player certainly, but I would think the Leafs should be looking at offer sheets for Trouba(WPG), Dumba(MIN), Edmundson(STL), Oleksiak(PIT)....

good idea... that way he'd be able to declare his principal residence as Buffalo...

or better yet Detroit... Michigan taxes

Consider difference in post-career earnings b/w cities if JT is a great player for even next few years, or Lordy, after a Cup win. Nearly 40 years later my Dad & FiL still earn a bit from NYI years. Wendel earns 6 figures to shake hands at games in TO. Tax stuff is short-sighted.

I am sure players consider all options.

It's a "I'm jealous Tavares doesn't want to come to the team I cheer for so let's find a way to trash it" technique

2) Fully aware that Pittsburgh won cups

It's not like he found that out after he picked the teams. Everyone knows about it.
