I can see it now, last second the Pens swoop in and sign Tavares and all hell breaks loose across the board wondering where Pitts keeps getting free cap space.

That would be a shot to the nuts.

He was ok. He wasn’t special in anyway. And again, that was before he was suspended again. He was not the same player.

Then Pittsburgh trades Kessel, which turns out to be a 3 team trade and Kessel lands on the Flyers. Kessel is fed protein cheesesteaks and scores 48 goals for the first time in his career.

MacDonald was having a good year and traded at the deadline. Then the Flyers kept him because he played well for them for the rest of that year.

Completely different from Gudas, who has had one decent season, two years ago, and was atrociously bad last season. Even embarrassed on National TV.

If the Flyers retained some money, teams would still rather have MacDonald than Gudas. (frank)ing guy sucker punched his own captain in an international tournament. He sucks.

- Flyers1218

Gudas did have an awful year. But I still liked what he brought to the table when we got him. He kicked our ass in TB. Never should have been a top 6 guy.

Part of our issue these past few years is that we have had guys in roles above their talent level. Matt Read should have been a 3rd or 4th line winger for us. We had holes and paid him too much. Smaller cap hit and a 4th line role, and I would love Matt Read. AMac. Etc. Actually not sure where the hell Fip's contract came from. Did we sign him to be our 2nd line center before we got Patrick? That would make sense. Doesn't excuse it.

Does Raffl have any trade value? We all figure we are stuck with Weise and Lehtera, maybe even Gudas and Nuevy. They are more like Steve Martin and Dan Akroyd as those swinging Czech brothers from SNL...

So Top 3 protected 2019 1st, 2019 3rd, Rubstov and Hagg for Trouba?
- Glak18

Well Winnipeg is going for it. A winger like Simmonds on a cheap deal could help.

Simmonds, Gudas, 2019 1st(top 3 protection) for Trouba and Tanev?

I was going to ask where do I sign to approve this.
- Glak18

Me too. I’d absolutely be on board.

2019 1st, Sanheim, Vecchione?

I think we have to learn more about the situation in Winnipeg. Trouba has been mentioned before in trade talks. I think this would be a strong offer Winnipeg would consider. Of course, other teams can offer more.

Not sure why Winnipeg would value the undrafted Vecchione who hasn't even made the Flyers yet.

I think they’d say no. Because then they will potential lose Simmonds next season bc their cap problems are still there.

They might. They could also look to keep him and trade someone else like Johnsson.

What’s your point? Brad Marchand didn’t seem phased by being suspended. He’s a 30 goal scorer.

Gudas is a third pair defenseman that admitted that he felt the pressure after his last suspension. And certainly played scared.

Don’t know where you were going on that one.

Great article. Winnipeg may be looking for some relief. Myers shouldn't be an option for us as he is only getting 3rd pair minutes. I say Trouba or move on.

Winnipeg isn't looking to add to their cap issues. They may want picks and prospects still on entry level deals.

Getting a first round pick, a former first round pick, who is ready for the NHL, on an ELC, and a center who played well in the minors, looks ready for the pros, and was highly sought after out of college. On an ELC.

You must have some serious issues if you think that punch of Giroux is worth bringing up in regards to Gudas' value.

MacDonald has had atrociously bad possession numbers almost every year of his career, including the "good year' where Holmgren rained cash on his head like the second coming of Brygalov. 18 months later he was in the AHL.

And if you want to talk about being embarrassed on TV....

Does him punching his own captain in an international tournament speak about his character or even his intelligence? You don’t think teams look at stuff like that before bringing a player in?

Of course if a guy can play you deal with it. He can’t play. He has no value right now. Hopefully, he plays better and is worth something next year.

And yet more teams would likely take a chance on MacDonald then they would Gudas.

Vecchione Has no value. He will likely never make it to the nhl. So stop with the Vecchione stuff. He will be a a good organizational guy for the phantoms who makes a nice living playing minor league hockey.

Would you for a guy who needs a new contract (and a big one at that), when you’re in cap trouble (the reason you’re trading the player in the first place), one of the worst defenseman in the league, a prospect that has been blah, a mid to late first round pick, and a 3rd?

At least getting Sanheim you have a player that may be able to do what Trouba did in a few years.

I think he has a better chance of making the NHL than you are giving him, but I see him more of a 4th line bubble player.

That’s fine, replace Vecchione with something that isn’t Simmonds or Gudas. There is your absolute bottom for a 25 year old, first pair, right handed defenseman.

I’m sorry, I was thinking of the previous one.

Gudas still has no value after last season. He was the worst defenseman on the team. That includes Brandon Manning.
