Absolutely correct. Although technically its not the upcoming year, our big FA add will be Simmonds for 5 yrs. at 6.5m per annum. - Sinisalo4vr
Why would Simmer only sign for 5 years?

For Hamilton to now be on his 3rd organization makes me wonder why both Boston and Calgary did not view him as untouchable. Don't get me wrong: I'd like him on the Flyers in terms of his game.
What Flyers need above all is another high-end two-way defenseman. They already get enough points from the D between Ghost, Provorov and what Sanheim is likely to get as his role increases. But they do need another puck mover who is also solid defensively. - bmeltzer
Agreed. I guy like Trouba would be a much better fit for their needs |

There are people who want Simmonds here AND a big FA splash - dragonoffrost
Whatever r logic people apply to UFA signings also has to be applied to Simmonds. I see some guys here who don't want Hextall to go out and give a guy in his 30s a 3 or 4 year deal but what to bring Simmonds back for 4+ years. |

I feel that too and I don't like it at all. It would have to be after July 1 since he is due $7.5 mil in a roster bonus. Unless Buffalo is willing to pay that then trade him. |

I would love a deal for Trouba. He would grow with our d corps as he is only 24 or 25. Top pair RD. We would have to sacrifice a piece but we get an NHL experienced dman in return for several years. |

Agreed, same rules apply. Flyers have to want Simmonds and Simmonds has to want to re-sign. Always a 2 way street. |

I agree with you that the logic needs to be consistent. I just think his value to this group is something that Hextall would weigh against the years and age. |

If the right RFA (or a signed player) was presented to us, would anyone be on board with trading our 2019 1st? I’ve seen names like Trouba, Dumba, ROR (signed). Now, I’m usually not one to trade 1st round picks nor am I saying we should/must; more so bored work discussion. The names listed above (and maybe some others that come to your mind) would immediately make us better. I know we aren’t in that contender status yet to trade away 1sts in hopes to go on a run, but curious to hear the idea of trading the pick with the assumption we make playoffs and aren’t a first round exit team again. |

I'd trade the 2019 1st+ for Trouba if Winnipeg allowed him to talk to us first about an extension.
Also, if Toronto does sign Tavares, they'll likely have to move someone, and I'd go hard after Nylander. |

Yes, would have to be a trade. I’d offer Gudas, Rubtsov and a top 3 protected 1st in 2019. |

The window we should be focusing on is the one where Provorov/Ghost/Sanheim/Patrick/Frost/Hart/etc are all in their primes. Trouba is young enough but is probably cost prohibitive. |

I think if the Flyers traded for Trouba the fans would riot.
24 year old right handed defenseman that logs 21+ mins a night, produces 50-60 points during a full season.
If I am Winnipeg...
I want 2019 1st round pick...
AND
Gimme Sanheim, Hart or Frost....
AND
I need a roster player, so gimme Konency
Wait you won't do that? *click* |

Exactly what Chevy is asking for. He has what is probably the biggest commodity right now. A legit 1st pair right handed Dman.
I wonder if Trouba goes to arbitration... |

I dont disagree they would want something like that but no team would pay it. That leaves the Jets faced with losing Trouba to FA in a year.

I think that's fair value. How often does an RFA holdout, who has already held out once, get full value in a trade?
