The point is that there is no uniformity in how the NHL "Safety" Committe hands out suspensions. That if Gudas had pulled the poop that Marchand did he would have been looking at much lengthier suspensions than Marchand received. As a result, Marchand feels no compulsion to alter his play because the consequence is a slap on the wrist. - Sinisalo4vr
Right or wrong, Marchand puts asses in the seats. Him not playing can affect casual fan ticket sales and viewership.
No one cares about if Gudas plays or not. Hence, when Gudas is an idiot they use him to make the example. If he had 40 points and 10 goals, he may catch more of a break.
Say what you want about that system, but it’s the truth.
EDIT: So if Radko is going to keep taking brutal penalties and get suspended or play like he did last season after the suspension then he is of zero value to the Flyers or to anyone that wants to trade for him. You can argue whether it’s fair or not, but that reputation is one he earned and he thus gets no benefit of the doubt. |

Jmatchette commented on Tavares possibly going to Toronto. That spilled into some Toronto talk.
You took offense to me comparing our prospects to Toronto's. Toronto has pulled themselves out of being an NHL basement dweller and making the playoffs the past couple years. Yes, for now I like there core better.
Anything else you wanna wine about? They drafted themselves out of being a crappy team and now look like they're gonna make the playoffs every year...
 - SuperSchennBros
If I'm Toronto, I would think about moving Marleau and Bozsk. They're already gonna lose JvR, which I would have tried to re-sign. Toronto in my opinion has better forward prospects than us but we have better D prospects. - SuperSchennBros
I expect Matthews and Marner to be the real deal. I'm not saying Patrick and Konecny won't be because I have high expectations for both but I give Matthews and Marner a slight edge over our up and coming two. Nylander is also a damn good player and I expect Morgan Riley to only get better. I expect Provorov to be heads and shoulders better than Riley if he isn't already. - SuperSchennBros
You are 100% correct, it was my fault for responding to you. Won't happen again.
As you can see..."Prospect pool" and two players are not the same thing in comparison. Running off the train tracks causes issues like this. |

More on Trouba:
He’s never exceeded 10 goals or 33 points in any of his five seasons and only scored 3 goals and 24 points last year.
To compare him with Provorov who had 6 and 30 as a rookie and 17 goals and 41 points last year is laughable. Provy plays the same shutdown role as Trouba, puts up more offense and does it all with a weaker supporting cast.
There is no comparison. - BiggE
In all fairness, they were not full seasons either.
EDIT: I used Provorov as the closest comparison that the Flyers have, in regards to a young upcoming defenseman with a high ceiling. Using Sanheim with limited experience would not be fair. |

Trouba becomes the #2 dman on the club.
I’d explore it. Lead with Simmonds but would have to give more and I’d be okay with that. |

Not only would you have to worry about the assets and value given up for Trouba in trade, but what is he asking for? 7M? 8M per? I doubt he is asking for 5.5M. |

Would like to see the Flyers take a shot at Anthony Duclair who did not get a QO from the Hawks. |

Winnipeg has all kind of cap issues. If they're trading any of these guys they're going to be look for picks/prospects & guys on ELCs. |

Don't really agree. They have Wheeler and Myers signed for 1 more year before UFA. They'd be smart to load up for 1 good shot before the cap tears them apart. A guy like Simmonds would be a fantastic add for them and would have a ton of value |

The way the cap has been rising the last few years, the cap doesn't seem like much of a problem for most teams anymore.
They have 25M in cap space with a lot of RFAs, but they have enough space for them and to extend Laine and Connor next year. The real problem is Trouba's asking price, which I believe is the real issue here. |

He didn’t play well and the Flyers didn’t want him or believe they could trade him if he accepted the $4 million QO |

Exactly, big difference between what 4.4M and 1.something million...means Duclair really sucky. |

They are going to have several tough decisions to make. Starting with how important they feel Stastny is to bring back. |

I am curious to find out what Stastny is asking for. I just can't imagine a team paying him his 7M per from last year. |

Posted this earlier. They certainly have some cap issues to figure out. I don't see how getting Simmonds who needs a new deal helps them out at all from a cap standpoint. |

The Hawks apparently just don’t want him back. On the other hand, the Hawks have made a lot of questionable personnel decisions over the past 2years |

It doesn’t. Any deal for Trouba would center around a 1st and Sanheim. I mentioned maybe Vecchione as young center as a lower tier prospect that could have some upside as a 3C/4C.
So they are getting a 1st round pick, a top flight prospect, and a young center who had a good season in the AHL and is a bit of an unknown at the NHL level. Obviously, there are other players that could be substituted for Vecchione, but I’m not touching anymore of our top tier prospects. If that doesn’t get it done, so be it. Let another team help them out of cap trouble. |

Not meant as a shot man, but if the club decides to stop overpaying for mediocrity in guys like Mac/Weise then no probs. I'd overpay for talent. Cheapen out on the turds, they can be found in every FA period. |

I think you'd be looking at a 1st with Simmonds and one of Sanheim/Myers.
If the Jets would be willing to throw in Appleton - I'd be jumping for joy. I dont believe sitting on the ass and simply drafting is the only way to go at it. If a guy like Trouba becomes available, you have to at least look at a deal.
Appleton is also a ginger. I think he's a perfect player for this club to target. |
