Canucks rumblings on the trade market. Upwards of 3 names now: Hanifin (although not much lately), maybe involved in the Hamilton rumours in some way, and Damon Severson. Hard to know if this at the expense of the number 7th or not, but likely

I'd say Ladd probably has slightly negative value after those last two seasons and being signed until age 37 @5.5M.

I'd also say Tanev has slightly less value than #12 considering only 2 seasons left.

So if those two considerations approximately balance one another you are looking at just #7 for #11.

Really depends if you value Ladd or see him as a liability. This would depend on the perceived cap structure and development phase of the team throughout his contract.

I think you treat him as a liability regardless because that's the Isles motivation for moving him.

It is one of the worst deals in the NHL it has a massive negative value.

No, not even Donnie can bring himself to do it with much passion these days.

I don’t recall Benning saying he was top pairing? Top 4 yes

Benning has no clue if he thinks adding one defenseman is enough.

Hamilton much be a real d-bag for 2 teams to 'want' to move him with his age, skill and size.
Odd....

Even the worst contracts in the league can be dumped for approximately a 2nd when there are teams like Arizona looking to spend their cap space on futures.

I'd put Ladd's at a similar negative value to LE which would be less negative than contracts like Bobby Ryan and Lucic.

To his defense they want Hamonic out too. They should just put a turnstile on that locker room door

Detroit just gave the jb answer on team building.
Want to get younger, bring in some veterans to shelter them and fill in the age gap.

I bet he is still a serviceable player that could contribute to most teams. Just not at that value.

By trading for a guy you are trying to speed up the rebuild. That is deal you make when you are ready to make the next step and not when you have 4 holes on defense to fill and several forward spots.

You misunderstood or I misspoke (although it should have been clear from context).

You don't get a second in return for those contracts. You pay a 2nd so another team will take them on. Hence the negative value.

In other words Lucic + #40 to a team with lots of cap space for 'future considerations'
