Sure,
But I bet Eichel’s % on the PP would be even less, since he’d almost always be going up against the other teams’ best faceoff guy

This is the problem i have when u take a stat like his overall faceoff % and then just apply it to a specific situation

It’s not gonna be the same,
yet u talk like there won’t be a difference

- jdfitz77

So does that mean O’Reilly actually would be less than 60% because he’s facing the other teams top guys? Works both ways.

How many PP faceoffs does RoR win above average per game? 1?
- Lunaion

Well ROR is above average, and Jack is below, so let’s just call it 2 faceoffs

U don’t think 40sec LESS PP time is significant?

I do

Except O’Reilly is still really good against other team’s top guys
So I’d think there’s be less of a fluctuation

Any chance u can find that info on one of your analytics sites?
I’m curious to know and wouldn’t have the first clue where to find the info

I realllllly find this argument funny.

I clearly remember this conversation about 3-4 years ago on here when all this group complained about was how we had Hodgson, Leino, Zemgus, or Grigorenko taking faceoffs. None of them cleared over about 42%. We were THRILLED when we got Steve Ott here because of his abilities on the dot but that was about the end of his offensive prowess.

Fastforward to now and we are pushing a guy out the door because faceoffs don't matter again.

I'll be bookmarking this for when we are halfway through the season and complaints come up about our lack of ability on the dot. It's gonna happen.

Guhle may start in Rochester 'cuz If BEAU is sent down he will be claimed.
- turbo044

I'd be happy if Beau was claimed unfortunately. I was happy with the trade for a 3rd initially as well. Swing and a miss.

We aren’t pushing anyone out of the door BECAUSE of face offs.

Watching hockey
How much time do u think is burned when we lose a faceoff & the puck gets cleared down the ice
I’d say about 20sec

And that’s assuming we can come down & actually gain the zone & get set up

Something that would already be done if we’d have won the faceoff

Saying ROR would win 2 more faceoffs than Jack is a guess-timate
Could even be a bigger disparity than that

This is so far off though.

Out of 10 face offs

O’Reilly wins 6
Eichel wins 4

Unless they are taking 5-6 draws every PP by themselves, you aren’t going to see a giant difference.

Also, not every single face off loss results in a clear.

You love to argue with simplistic storytelling vs stats. Losses aren't automatic clears. Wins aren't always clear possession. You can try to make it black and white, but I reject the premise.

If you really want to make it Jack vs RoR, then Jack's exceptional zone entries trump RoR's exceptional faceoffs by a wide margin.

It's a useful skill. Is it worth $7.5m by itself? No. But at the end of a game when you're taking a d zone draw up by a goal with 15 seconds left and PK Subban is waiting for his center to win the draw back him, it comes in handy

I don’t disagree. Take any advantage you can.

It’s just not a skill that means a ton.

Guys get better at it all the time.

Eichel will get to be a 50% guy at some point

And sometimes we won’t be able to re-gain the zone & set up right away

I think the difference would be significant
But we won’t know till Jack starts taking those draws

Hopefully he doesn’t think faceoffs don’t matter & he’s working at them this offseason

Bc 41% is a freaking joke at this point for someone so talented

It's crazy as can be.

Happy to have written my final daycare payment of my life. That'll be an extra $1300 laying around every month.

I come around for certain events. Probably disappear after the draft for a bit again.

- JVince11

Not to preach but consider putting that in a 529 plan now. I'm looking at colleges with my junior and freshman and it's $70k per year at the colleges they're looking at

Yep but a cheap franchise who wants to save actual $$$ likes ROR a lot more after 6/30
